We are excited to be looking for a Design and Technology technician to support the faculty across Food Technology, Product Design and Textiles.
Design and Technology at Writhlington is a very popular subject, with the students enjoying having the opportunity to complete a wide range of different projects using a wide array of materials. Projects include learning basic skills in cookery, making soft toys and pencils cases in Textiles, working with electronics to manufacture an Animal Lamp or designing their own 'Bus Stop for Somerset'.
The Design and Technology Faculty has excellent resources including a well equipped Food room with Induction ovens and a Blast Chiller, a Textiles room with sublimation printer and laser cutter, a well equipped workshop with a range of modern and traditional tools, including a laser cutter and 3 3D printers. Full training will be provided.

Job Purpose
To provide technical and administrative support to Design & Technology and other teaching staff, assisting students where asked to by teaching staff and arranging for maintenance and testing of specialist machines.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
To prepare classrooms and workshops for use by staff and pupils, ensuring a safe and tidy working environment
To prepare materials and equipment for use by teachers and students
To support staff and pupils on the safe use of equipment and materials, including electrical equipment and machinery
To demonstrate, advise and assist in practical activities
To assist in using and showing students computer operated equipment including CAD/CAM, producing students work thereon
To maintain and repair equipment
To purchase resources as agreed with teaching staff from the budgets available, including placing orders as necessary. Negotiation of best prices with suppliers.
Purchase and preparation of ingredients for Food Technology practicals.
To be responsible for the safe storage of equipment and materials, and the disposal of hazardous materials, according to the relevant regulations and procedures
To maintain stock records, and records of materials purchased by students, for billing at a later date
To assist in the organisation and preparation of displays for Open Evenings and other events
To ensure that all COSHH/Health and Safety regulations are complied with in all areas of the faculty.
In class support/ working with small groups of students within Design Technology
Accompanying on school trips as and when required.
To be a designated First Aider for the school as required

Physical Effort & Working Environment
The postholder will be expected to undertake bending, stretching and lifting in the course of their duties e.g. preparing the classroom, displaying pupils work, assist pupils during lesson times, engaging in activities led by the teacher. There may be an increased level of physical effort required for children with personal or specialist needs.
During occasional periods of supervision, there will be an expectation that the postholder will be exposed to heat and cold which on occasions, for example adverse weather conditions, may be higher than normal.

A valid first aid certificate
