JOB SUMMARY



The Role:

Design Apprentice / Trainee Packaging Designer

Lesters have an opportunity for a Design Apprentice / Trainee Packaging Designer to take their first steps in their design career in the packaging industry.

We create corrugated boxes, large format, heavy-duty cases and bespoke cardboard packaging solutions to suit our customers' requirements. This is an entry level role in our in-house packaging design team. Our experienced and passionate design team can assist with adjusting current FEFCO styles or create bespoke designs from scratch. We produce a range of samples for customers to test first-hand using state-of-the-art CAD software.

The successful candidate will be trained in house all aspects on creating sustainable corrugated packaging samples and understanding how we can support our clients achieve the lowest overall supply chain solutions for their products. Apprenticeship qualifications will be considered for the right candidate

You will become an integral part of the design team so being a team player is a must.

Key Duties



Produce prototype and sample corrugated cardboard boxes according to design specifications and CAD drawings that are dimensionally accurate and structurally sound. Operate sample cutting machines such as a CAD table and manual tools (cutters, scoring tools, glue guns, staplers) Record and track all sample requests, versions, and approvals. Take responsibility for sample board stock levels and racking board Assist packaging designers to test and refine structural integrity, stack strength and design efficiency. Develop skills to create CAD drawling using Kasemake Completing a range of varied business critical administrative tasks including use of SPOCS Take responsibilities for the CAD table (reporting breakdowns/manage consumables) Potentially liaise with customers as required Assist with ordering, tracking, booking in and checking consumables Develop your skills to progress into a packaging designer role Provide support to the design department

Our Ideal Candidate



The ideal candidate will be looking to start their career in the corrugated cardboard industry in a design role.

They will be design/creative minded. Any background knowledge or experience is advantageous and not essential.

They will be ready and willing to take the opportunity to progress and develop their skills on the job with the people skills to learn how to interact with high profile customers professionally and successfully.

They will also:

Be a team player Aptitude to become proficiency in CAD or similar design software. Excellent creative thinking skills with a keen eye for details. Be willing and motivated to continuously strive to improve. Have a good work ethic Be a punctual and reliable individual, who is flexible, willing to learn and has a desire to build a career. Be organised, innovative and focused Demonstrate good problem solving skills Be able to prioritise workload against resource and timescale
Desirable but not a requirement as these can be learnt on the job/separately

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office CAD experience Full UK drivers' licence

What is on offer?



Starting salary will be set at the National Minimum Wage/Living Wage.
