Design Assistant, Audio

London, United Kingdom

Job Description

Are you bursting with creativity? Can you bring fresh ideas to our already established brand look? We\'ve got an exciting opportunity to join Penguin Random House\'s Audio Division as a Design Assistant.

About Audio

At Penguin Random House Audio, the UK\'s leading audiobook publisher, we are dedicated to making the very best audiobooks. Working with exceptional acting talent, producers and studios, we publish award-winning and bestselling audiobooks such as Richard Osman\'s The Thursday Murder Club series, Bernadine Evaristo\'s Booker-winning Girl, Woman, Other, Stephen Fry\'s Troy and Dr Julie Smith\'s Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?

Our team also includes BBC Audio, where we commercialise curated collections of BBC Radio\'s spoken word content. In addition to its extensive backlist catalogue, BBC Audio publishes a wide range of entertainment, with comedy series including Just a Minute and I\'m Sorry I Haven\'t a Clue; sci-fi and fantasy programmes such as Doctor Who and The Lord of the Rings, and radio drama based on the works of writers including Agatha Christie, Patricia Highsmith, Alan Bennett and Arthur Conan Doyle.

The opportunity

As Design Assistant in Audio, you\'ll be reporting to the Design Lead and working closely with teams across the business such as Publishing Operations, Marketing and Editorial to connect our biggest books in Audio with listeners. Whilst managing your own workflow and sticking to tight deadlines, you\'ll be responsible for reaching and engaging listeners on retailer platforms through the design of Penguin Random House (PRH) and BBC audio covers.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Adapting PRH print jackets to audiobook retailer specifications
  • Working with our different publishing houses to ensure new cover designs (paperback, film tie-ins, awards) are proactively updated in audio
  • Creating and refreshing cover designs for new BBC audiobooks
  • Designing assets for digital marketing campaigns following established style guides
  • Supporting the Design Lead to deliver the design elements of broader strategic projects within the Audio business (e.g. pitch documents and presentations)
What you\'ll bring

This new role is a fantastic opportunity to be creative, adaptable, and to contribute to ideas sessions. Ideally, you\'ll be fluent in the use of Adobe CS - InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator - and you\'ll have practical knowledge in using animation software or motion graphics.

We\'re also looking for someone who is:
  • Able to manage their own workload, and work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Able to work to tight deadlines and schedules
  • Able to work flexibly and manage an evolving list of priorities
How to apply

You don\'t need to have publishing experience to apply for this role. If you have a real interest in and enthusiasm for ideas in audio visuals, we want to hear from you. Please apply by 23:59 on Tuesday 11th July with your CV, Cover Letter, and three examples of your design work that you are most proud of and that show a mix of versatility.
