Job Description

An opportunity has arisen within our Engineering Design Office for a Design Engineer. This is a permanent, full-time role offering a great opportunity to work within a dynamic team.

Hours:


Gilberts is currently trialing a 4-day working week (36 hours), with core operating hours Monday to Thursday, 08:00 - 17:30, plus flexible start/finish options.

This trial is being reviewed in December 2025. If it continues, the 4-day week will remain in place. If the trial ends, we would revert to our previous working pattern of 39.5 hours across five days (Monday-Friday).

Duties



Working directly for the Senior Design Engineer, assist in setting up parametric models that run automatically in conjunction with our ERP system, (these models automatically produce drawings), DXF files, BOMs & cut lists for the manufacturing team to use. Apply a continuous improvement mindset to enhance the speed and quality of outputs produced by the design team. Develop and improve new and existing products to reduce costs and improve manufacturing lead times. Produce CAD drawings for new or improved products using industry standards. Ability to deal with multiple projects concurrently. Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to investigate and resolve problems with existing designs. Participate in reviews and make recommendations. Make corrections to models and drawings as and when requested to do so by senior staff. Provide support to other areas within the Engineering department during busy periods to ensure drawings are issued on time and customer deadlines are met.

Knowledge and Experience:



A relevant degree in Design is essential. A minimum of 3 years' experience in a Mechanical Design role. Fully proficient in both 2D/3D CAD packages including SolidWorks, AutoCAD. Understanding of mechanical design, materials, tolerances, and manufacturing processes. Ability to identify design issues and develop effective solutions. Ability to read and understand 2D and 3D drawings. Fluent in Microsoft Excel, Word & Adobe.
