Design Engineer - Full-Time, On-Site (Derby)



We are looking for a

Design Engineer

to join our team at

AddQual

in Derby. This role is integral to ensuring

high-quality metrology designs

meet both

production and customer requirements

Position Summary



As a

Design Engineer

, you will be responsible for

creating precise CAD models

, embedding

metrology-related GD&T data directly into Siemens NX

, and supporting

parametric design

for tooling and supporting hardware. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of

Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles

, combined with expertise in

CAD modelling and parametric design

.

Role ResponsibilitiesCAD Modelling & PMI Integration:



Create and modify

3D CAD models and assemblies

in

Siemens NX

to meet

design and manufacturing specifications

. Apply

GD&T annotations directly in CAD

using

Product Manufacturing Information (PMI) tools

in Siemens NX. Ensure

embedded GD&T aligns with engineering drawings, manufacturing processes, and metrology standards

.

GD&T Application:



Interpret and apply

GD&T per ASME Y14.5 or ISO 1101

to define

part geometry, tolerances, and inspection criteria

. Collaborate with

design, manufacturing, and metrology teams

to ensure

tolerances are both manufacturable and measurable

.

Parametric Design:



Develop and maintain

parametric CAD models

to support

tooling, ancillary tooling, and associated hardware

. Ensure

flexibility and reusability

of parametric models for

design iterations and modifications

.

Metrology Support:



Work closely with

quality and inspection teams

to ensure

embedded GD&T [MBD/PMI] data aligns with automated and manual inspection processes

. Assist in defining

inspection strategies

and validate inspection data against CAD models.

Collaboration & Communication:



Liaise with

cross-functional teams

, including

engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance

, to ensure

design intent is effectively communicated

. Provide

technical guidance and support

to team members regarding

GD&T and PMI best practices

.

Documentation & Compliance:



Prepare

detailed documentation

of design processes, standards, and

GD&T applications

. Ensure all designs and embedded data

comply with industry and company standards

.

Key RequirementsEducation & Experience:



Bachelor's degree

in

Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field

.

3+ years of experience

in

CAD design

, with proficiency in

Siemens NX

. Hands-on experience applying

GD&T annotations in CAD using PMI tools

. Experience with

parametric modelling

for

tooling and hardware design

.

Skills & Competencies:



Strong knowledge of

GD&T principles and standards (ASME Y14.5/ISO 1101)

. Proficiency in

Siemens NX

, including

PMI and parametric design tools

. Familiarity with

manufacturing processes

and

metrology techniques

. Strong

problem-solving and analytical skills

. Excellent

communication and collaboration skills

.

Preferred Qualifications:



Experience in

aerospace, automotive, tooling design

or precision engineering

industries. Knowledge of

automated inspection systems

and

CMM programming

.
