Purpose of role



The Design Engineer will undertake a variety of design and programming activities, including the creation of drawings and sheet metal programming for manufacturing. This role is working closely in conjunction with machine operators to improve manufacturing efficiency, and find solutions to issues that arise from Design into fabrication. Experience with laser cutting and other processes will be essential, and these skills will be utilised to streamline the processes from Design/Programming. This role supports the design and programming of ventilation products and works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.

Role and responsibilities:



Design for manufacture: Conversion of metalwork designs from CAD and other software packages to program nets/flats through fabrication via laser cutting and other machines. Work closely in conjunction with machine operators to improve manufacturing efficiency, and find solutions to issues that arise from Design into fabrication. Perform sheet metal nesting and optimise material usage for manufacturing, reducing material and labour in the factory. Running Design Development Projects with Fabrication, Programming and Design teams, utilising the Salvagnini Panel Bender and other sheet metal processes. Design bespoke Air Handling Units (AHUs), and produce outline and detailed drawings to a high standard using AutoCAD and other design software. Create Bills of Materials for ventilation products and prepare programming for manufacturing using relevant software. Actively liaising with both factory shopfloors to assist in resolving production issues related to design and programming errors. Review designs and programs created by colleagues, providing feedback to maintain high standards. Approve component drawings from suppliers and issue customer-specific drawings as required. Participate in design reviews to provide insights and recommendations. Collaborate with production and programming teams to assist with quality issues and ensure seamless workflow. Identify areas for personal development and notify the management team of further training opportunities. Comply with company health and safety standards and ensure adherence during all project phases. Support the team with filing and retrieving design-related information when required. Manage time effectively to ensure all assigned projects meet deadlines. Carry out any other duties as deemed appropriate by your line manager.
