Design Engineer



We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer role within Gencoa Ltd. Based at our offices in Speke, Liverpool, this is a full time, permanent position, reporting into the Managing Director.

The role involves customisation of products to meet customer specifications and some new product development work, whilst leading and developing mechanical engineering capability across the business. The role involves ownership throughout the job life cycle; identifying customer requirements, through design and manufacture to post-delivery support.

Working closely with all functions within the business, you will:

Foster innovative and lateral thinking as an aid to problem solving. Minimise lead times in the design to manufacture cycle. Introduce and drive through improvements in the order processing cycle.

Your Duties and Key Accountabilities:



Mechanical design of high technology products through original CAD design work. Provide design technical support to new and existing products. Ensure the design criteria are standardised into baseline products enabling fast reaction to incoming production orders. Oversee production and NPD designs and be hands on in the development process. Liaise with customers regarding specific requirements for orders, customising standard products to meet customer needs. Communicate with customers regarding design queries/ amendments as necessary. Ensure projects and orders are delivered on time, within budget and meet the customers' expectations. Be hands-on and project manage the development process from order placement to completion of design. Work closely with sales, the customer and R&D to finalise designs and lead the design review meetings. Provide product brief to Assembly Workshop and formally handover project; field technical enquiries regarding product assembly. Finalise the product model - complete the design and detailing using 3D CAD and CAD database management system. Generate BOM for materials ordering and pass onto Purchasing dept. Ensure product is feasible in line with current supplier lead times and that these are adhered to. Works to established works procedures, improving procedures and processes as required. Manage engineering change orders (ECO's) and provide technical product engineering support- if necessary provide redesign effort. Provide final approval and ensure sign off for all mechanical design drawings. Ensure traceability for design projects. Provide post-delivery support to customers. Ensure that all work is carried out in compliance with the required standard to ensure conformance to the engineering specification and for promoting a product safety culture in the organisation. Share knowledge and experience with the team at design meetings and in day-to-day work.

Experience Required:



HNC in Mechanical Engineering with a degree or postgraduate qualification in Mechanical Engineering desirable A minimum of 5 years' experience as a Design Engineer Solid Design experience New product development and existing product customisation experience Standardising product range Solution driven Working within the control of a Quality System Vacuum engineering experience desirable Parametric design experience using CAD systems desirable Whole product cycle knowledge - from design to purchase of parts to assembly desirable

Skills & Aptitude Required:



Experience of 3D CAD system/s essential Problem solving skills Design for practical applications experience Innovative design thinking High level of attention to detail Background in hard sciences - Physics or Mathematics desirable Windchill experience desirable
