The role
As a Design Engineer in the Nuclear Process Group, you\'ll have a role that\'s out of the ordinary where you will solve technical problems and provide engineering support to submarine maintenance operations across Devonport Royal Dockyard\'s Nuclear Licensed Site and the Ministry of Defence\'s Authorised Site. You will undertake design activities relating to process engineering in order to maintain and improve capabilities and will be responsible for the maintenance and control of modifications to the design intent of nuclear implicated plant and equipment.

To support you in fulfilling this role, you will undertake training and development relating to nuclear engineering as well as other areas of technical and non-technical competence. Professional engineering registration/membership will also be fully supported, and you will be part of a team who prioritise knowledge building and sharing.

Day to day responsibilities will also include:

  • Leading or working within a team of engineers, diagnosing technical problems and providing suitable resolutions
  • Engaging with multiple stakeholders across technical and non-technical disciplines
  • Leading or supporting on-site validations of physical systems against design information
  • Producing design documentation and supporting assessments, acting as lead author where appropriate
  • Delivering design solutions in accordance with the design process (Start-up, Concept, Scheme, Detailed and Implementation phases)
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant design codes, engineering standards and legislation
Essential experience of the Mechanical Engineer:
  • Knowledge of pressure systems (pipework, tanks, valves, pumps, overpressure protection etc.)
  • Experience using engineering software packages (e.g. for computer aided design, stress analysis or fluid flow)
  • Experience in the design, operation or maintenance of pressure systems in a highly regulated industry
  • Knowledge of legislation, engineering standards and design codes
  • Experience of having applied the whole design lifecycle
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance level for this role.
