Role Overview:



We are seeking an experienced and driven Design and Manufacturing Lead to oversee the full lifecycle of product development - from initial concept and design through to manufacturing and delivery. This is a critical leadership role requiring a strong foundation in mechanical or product design, alongside a deep understanding of modern manufacturing processes and supply chain management.

The ideal candidate will bring both hands-on technical expertise and strategic vision, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and external partners to deliver high-quality, cost-effective products at scale.

Key Responsibilities:



Design & Development



Lead the design and development of mechanical components and products, ensuring alignment with performance, usability, cost, and manufacturability requirements. Produce and manage high-quality CAD models, drawings, and technical documentation. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including R&D, electronics, software, and compliance to ensure holistic product development. Oversee prototyping, testing, and iteration to refine design solutions. Technology transfer from design to manufacture and scale.

Manufacturing & Supply Chain



Process design and production validation. Develop and optimise manufacturing strategies for both low-volume prototyping and high-volume production. Identify, engage, and manage suppliers, fabricators, and contract manufacturers. Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality. Manage production costs with a view to cost optimization and working withing strict budget requirements. Manage sourcing, procurement planning, and manufacturing lead times.

Project Leadership



Plan and manage project timelines, risks, deliverables, and resources across design and manufacturing stages. Lead technical reviews, risk assessments, and progress reporting. Ensure products comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and certification requirements.

Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement



Define and implement quality assurance and control processes across the design and production workflow. Monitor manufacturing performance and customer feedback to identify and action improvements. Promote a culture of continuous improvement across design and production activities. Implementation and standardization of risk management (FMEA) and problem solving methodologies into routine operations.

Essential Requirements:



Minimum 5 years' experience in product design, electronic / mechanical engineering, or manufacturing engineering. Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion 360, or similar). Demonstrated experience across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to production. In-depth knowledge of manufacturing techniques such as CNC machining, injection moulding, electrical and electronics, sheet metal fabrication, and precision assembly. In-depth knowledge and experience with facilities controls and planned preventive maintenance. Strong ability in understanding and management of direct and indirect cost of goods. Experience in supplier management, negotiation, and quality assurance. Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills. Minimum Academic qualification - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

Desirable Attributes:



Experience working within a start-up or scale-up environment. Knowledge of sustainable design practices or circular economy principles. Familiarity with relevant compliance frameworks (e.g. CE marking, FCC, ISO 9001,14001 and 45001 standards, RoHS, REACH). Exposure to PLM systems, ERP integration, or lean manufacturing principles. Lean Six sigma certification or working towards (green/black belt)
