Main Job Purpose
To provide high quality technical and administrative support within the Design Technology Department.
Main duties
Main duties & responsibilities are indicated below. Other duties of an appropriate level and nature may also be required as directed by the Line Manager.
To ensure and promote the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment for staff and students;
To organise the equipment and resources in the classrooms in line with health & safety requirements;
To support individual students during practical lessons;
To support lessons when required;
Under the overall guidance of the HoD to ensure that both routine and non-routine checking and cleaning of equipment / machinery are carried out to the required standard;
To respond effectively to requests from staff as required;
To take a proactive approach with regards to continuous improvement within the department.
Tasks will include:
To liaise with and provide advice and support to teaching staff in the preparation and delivery of lessons or development of new units for the curriculum;
To prepare resources and assemble equipment;
To deliver practical equipment, associated ICT equipment and material resources, (worksheets, tests, videos & similar) to designated areas in time for the start of the lesson or as agreed with the classroom teacher;
To replenish and maintain equipment and essential resources in work areas;
To obtain food and / or equipment by local purchase;
To give technical advice to teachers, technician and students;
To carry out risk assessments for technician activities on a daily basis;
To assistant in practical classes and carrying out demonstrations;
To ensure all equipment and materials are prepared for demonstration purposes or for use by teaching staff and students;
To keep up to date with Health & safety requirements and with developments in practical Technology, attending courses as required and agreed by the Head of Faculty.
To recommend to the Head of Faculty changes to policies and procedures;
To organise, store and check the conditions of materials, food & equipment;
To ensure the safe treatment and disposal of used materials including hazardous substances and responding to actual or potential hazards as required with regard to legal and school requirements;
To ensure the healthy, safe storage and accessibility of equipment and materials, advice on the need for checks on first aid kits and electrical and other safety checks as required;
To attend team meetings, presenting information and contributing to meetings and the decision making process;To assist with stock contracts, compiling orders, liaising or negotiating with suppliers and maintaining appropriate records;
To monitor, control and keep financial records of the team expenditure as agreed;
To collect, check and return equipment to stores;
To ensure the practical equipment in work areas is stored in a clean and safe environment;
To carry out general cleaning and immediate repair of equipment;
To provide advice and guidance to staff on the use, purchase and replacement of resources;
To support with the creation and maintenance of displays both in the departments and wider school as directed by the Head of Faculty;
To work to support the Principal in the maintenance of good discipline and behavior throughout the Academy;
To support the work of the department.
