About the role
You will be responsible for providing dedicated technical IT support to the council's planning system, as well as cover for the council's other digital systems. Planning is one of the council's most important services, which oversees all new development in the district from back garden extensions to major regeneration projects. Residents and Government take a close interest in the performance of the service.
Your job is to make sure the system is high performing and to seek opportunities for improvement. You will work closely with IT, digital and planning officers and with suppliers. As the council is currently moving to a new system (Idox Uniform), you have a rare opportunity to configure the new system and to be involved in a data migration from one system to the other (although you will not be required to undertake the data migration).
About you
You love working with technology and will be capable of working with common system technologies like scripting and batch jobs. You will be able to think critically about problems in systems and work out the right questions to ask to get solutions. You will enjoy learning new skills, technical and non-technical. A computer science or IT degree and experience of a digital applications or business support role is beneficial but not essential. You will be organised, ideally familiar with working on projects, and will be comfortable working at pace in a diverse team. You will be a good communicator who is willing think of and raise ideas of improving performance.
