This is a unique role, with the opportunity to not only achieve the business aims of the Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) Catapult, but to drive forward new business opportunities which achieve the aims of establishing a world leading UK ecosystem to support the development, manufacture, and delivery to patients, important ATMP therapies. The Director of Business Development will report to the Chief Business Officer and will be responsible for leading the business development activities of the CGT Catapult across its UK sites, as well as its UK and international initiatives. As the CGT Catapult evolves, there is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping its future direction and driving the delivery of new initiatives.###
Key Responsibilities
Lead the business development activities of the CGT Catapult across all facilities and business units, including manufacturing, process and technology innovation, regulatory affairs, health economics and clinical adoption, and skills. The role of Director of Business Development will include the following accountabilities:As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, to deliver the mission of the CGT Catapult, and foster the culture of the organisation
To deputise for the Chief Business Officer on occasions, as and when required
Lead and develop a team of Business Development professionals to develop the CGT Catapult's value proposition and ensure that this is integrated across the organisation and communicated to the marketplace
Be responsible and accountable for the delivery of the Business Development team's key performance targets and revenue budgets
Work with the Chief Business Officer and the delivery team Leads to develop and implement the business development strategy which will deliver sustainable growth for the CGT Catapult
Work with the Business Development team to deliver the Business Development strategy
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, report on commercial activities, and market trends
Work with Business Development and Legal teams to transact commercial, collaboration and licensing agreements
Maintain a prominent UK profile and promote the CGT Catapult within the UK and internationally
Prepare and maintain accurate annual budget and revenue forecasting, and to manage the Business Development operations within its operating budget
Experience:
Extensive experience (+5 years) in a business development role within the cell and gene therapy or related biotechnology industry, ideally working within a Life Science Consultancy, CRO, CDMO or Pharma/Biotech company
Senior management experience and team leadership skills
Experience of leading negotiation of high value contracts
Technology licensing experience preferred
Experience of grant funding preferred

Excellent knowledge of the UK biotechnology ecosystem and preferably the international market
Resilient, with the ability to manage multiple and varied tasks and prioritise workload within a fast-paced professional environment, with a strong attention to detail
Excellent track record of successful personnel leadership
An excellent negotiator and dealmaker
Experience of motivating and developing teams with proven coaching/mentoring ability
Ability to quickly establish credibility and build rapport and trust
Good public speaker with strong external and internal scientific credibility
Willingness to travel
Education / Qualifications:
Honours degree in a relevant biological science
