The Door Supervisor for our LGBTQ+ bar is a vital frontline ambassador responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and positive experience of all patrons and staff. This role extends beyond standard security duties, requiring a strong understanding and commitment to fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and safe environment for the diverse LGBTQ+ community and its allies. The ideal candidate will be a professional, vigilant, and approachable individual with excellent conflict resolution and communication skills, dedicated to upholding licensing objectives and promoting a respectful atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
Access Control & ID Verification:
Meticulously check identification to ensure all patrons are of legal drinking age and comply with venue entry policies.
Manage queues efficiently and respectfully, ensuring smooth entry and exit.
Refuse entry to individuals who are intoxicated, aggressive, or otherwise deemed a risk to staff or other patrons, while adhering to all anti-discrimination laws.
Conduct bag searches and pat-downs when necessary, following strict protocols and with due respect for personal boundaries.
Customer Service & Welcoming Environment:
Serve as the first point of contact, greeting patrons in a friendly, professional, and inclusive manner.
Provide information and assistance to guests, helping to set a positive tone for their visit.
Act as an ambassador for the LGBTQ+ community, demonstrating empathy, understanding, and respect for all identities and expressions.
Conflict Resolution & De-escalation:
Proactively identify and de-escalate potential conflicts or disputes among patrons, using calm and effective communication techniques.
Manage disruptive, aggressive, or intoxicated individuals with tact and professionalism, ensuring their safe and respectful removal from the premises when necessary.
Be particularly aware of and sensitive to potential issues related to homophobia, transphobia, or other forms of discrimination, intervening swiftly and appropriately to protect patrons.
Venue Security & Safety:
Maintain high visibility and constant vigilance, patrolling both inside and outside the venue to monitor patron behaviour and identify potential risks.
Monitor CCTV systems effectively to support on-the-ground observations.
Ensure all fire exits and emergency routes are clear and accessible at all times.
Respond effectively to emergencies, including medical incidents, fire alarms, or other security breaches, coordinating with staff and emergency services as required.
Report all incidents, disturbances, or suspicious activities clearly and accurately in an incident log.
Compliance & Licensing:
Adhere strictly to all licensing laws, health and safety regulations, and venue policies.
Work collaboratively with bar management, staff, and local authorities (e.g., police, licensing officers) to maintain a safe and compliant operating environment.
Teamwork & Communication:
Work effectively as part of a security team, communicating clearly and concisely with colleagues and bar staff.
Provide constructive feedback and share observations to enhance overall venue safety and guest experience.
Qualifications & Experience:
Valid SIA Door Supervisor License (or equivalent national certification).
Current First Aid qualification.
Proven experience as a Door Supervisor, preferably within a fast-paced nightlife or hospitality environment.
Demonstrable understanding and appreciation of the LGBTQ+ community and its culture. Experience working in an LGBTQ+ venue is highly desirable.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and de-escalation skills.
Strong observational skills and situational awareness.
Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
High level of physical fitness and stamina, able to stand for extended periods and respond to physical demands if required.
Impeccable personal presentation and professional demeanour.
Right to work in the UK (or relevant country).
Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
Pay: 14.00 per hour
