To dress on York Theatre Royal's production of Military Wives The Musical. This is a fixed term contract from Monday 01 September to Monday 29 September 2025. Dressing a track for all performances, pre-setting costumes ahead of each performance, ensuring performers are dressed correctly.
Duties
To dress a dressing track
To prepare shoes, hats, wigs and other costume items, as required, for performers
To pre-set for each performance
To return maintenance and laundry prior to each performance
To collect maintenance and laundry from dressing rooms post show and put on a post show wash
To assist Stage Management during the show as required
To respond to instruction from the Stage Manager during performance
To report any immediate issues to the Stage Manager
To dress performers during quick changes
To assist performers during tech rehearsal, dress rehearsals and performances
To ensure performers are correctly dressed
To maintain costumes during performance
To make notes of repairs for wardrobe maintenance
To set and strike costumes between the Theatre and other locations as required
To contribute to the good housekeeping of the department including keeping costumes, workrooms and dressing rooms in a clean and tidy condition
To maintain effective working relationships with departmental staff, colleagues and line managers
To maintain good standards of work, contributing to the department's safe, efficient, economic and high quality performance
To adhere to the Theatre' Health and Safety Policy and current legislation
To undertake any duties that may be reasonably required
Person Specification
Essential
A minimum of 2 years' experience dressing in a theatre
The ability to work accurately under pressure
Good knowledge of theatre etiquette
Good communication skills
Experience of preparing shoes, hats, wigs and other costume items
Good organisational skills
Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the Department
The ability to meet deadlines
The ability to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays for the duration of the contract
A genuine interest in theatre
Desirable
Experience of working on a large scale Productions
A full, clean driving licence
Experience of setting wigs
Good sewing skills
Terms and Conditions
The Dresser must be available throughout the fixed term period.
Hours will vary across the period of the fixed term contract. The Dresser is required for all pre-sets and performances.
Rate of pay: 12.21 per hour (Standard Time).
Standard Time is payable for up to 9 hours per day between 8am and 12midnight Monday to Saturday, for up to 40 hours a week.
Time and a half is payable for hours over the Standard Time 40 hours per week, or over 9 hours a day or on the 6th consecutive day of work.
Overtime and Bank Holidays will be paid at double time, in line with UK Theatre / BECTU agreement.
The salary will be paid monthly
