An opportunity has arisen within South Wales Police to join the Learning and Development Driver Training Unit as a Driver Trainer.

This is a part time position working 1 month on and 1 month off. During the working Month you will work a 37hr week, Monday to Thursday.




Could you be who we are looking for?



You will be at the forefront of planning and delivering training to all who attend the training unit, both internally and externally, helping develop those individuals in line with Force/National requirements.


About the team/Department you will be joining:

We are a large team who are based in Bridgend, but there may be the requirement on occasions for the successful applicant to work at other locations throughout the force, and out of force. The Driver Training Unit currently work between 8am-6pm 4 days a week (Mon-Thurs). There may be a requirement to work outside of these hours including week-ends . Trainers are multi-functional and deliver training across all areas of Driver Training.

About the role and your key responsibilities:

To plan and deliver innovative training, complete associated administration and develop all South Wales Police officers, staff and external bodies as necessary. To promote and Champion Driver Training, both within South Wales Police and externally with other law enforcement agencies and partners. Responsible for the protection of life and property and the maintenance of Driving Standards in line with the College of Policing and NPCC standards.

What skills and experience do we need you to bring to the role:

Hold a Police Driver Instructors' qualification (or be prepared to attain this qualification within 6 months of appointment) Hold a Police Trainer certificate or equivalent e.g., PGCE, Cert. Ed, Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training (CET), Level 4 Certificate in Training in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS), be a Qualified Teacher or have achieved the College of Policing Training Essentials Programme (TEP), which is now the sector standard for Police Driver Training (or be prepared to attend a TEP course). Hold a suitable assessor qualification e.g., D32/33, A1, Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement or Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or be prepared to attend a course to successfully gain this qualification). Hold a current Advanced Police Driving grade, or equivalent, in the use of advanced vehicles over the nationally recognised speed limit (or be prepared to attend a course to successfully gain this qualification).
