Brief Description
What will you be doing?
As a Duty Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the day to day running of New Street station operations including train despatch, assisting in the provision of a high quality service to our customers and ensuring delivery of contractual obligations.

About the role (External)
Every day will be different, but you can expect to be involved in the following activities:
1. Reports to Station Operations Manager
2. Responsible for day to day Management of team of staff at New Street station
3. All line management responsibilities, including HR.
4. Safe Work Leader looking after direct reports
5. Able to make decisions regarding provision of service to our customer based on Network Rail policy and management guidance
6. Compliance with all safety responsibilities as detailed in the appropriate Safety Responsibility Statement.
7. This is a Safety Critical post (main)
8. This is a Key Safety post
9. All directly reporting staff carry out their duties to a high standard
10. The safe and punctual despatch of trains where required
11. High levels of customer service are provided
12. Own safety and that of others at all times
13. Comply with all appropriate rules and regulations
14. Carry out the day to day running of New Street station operations including train despatch
15. Undertake Station Co-ordinator duties in their absence
16. Manage direct reporting staff to enable them to carry out their duties to a high standard
17. Manage the efficient operation of the station and minimise any delay wherever possible
18. Carry out emergency procedures as described in the station emergency plan
19. Liaise with traincrew management, control staff, signalling staff and Network Rail staff as appropriate to manage the efficient operation of New Street station
20. Monitor train despatch and platform activities to ensure they are carried out safely and impartially
21. Carry out Safety Critical assessments for all relevant staff to ensure competencies are maintained
22. Comply with Rule Book, and other appropriate instructions and standards
23. Undertake staff briefings as required
24. Carry out checks as appropriate to ensure that operational and safety standards are being maintained
25. Maintain a daily log and record events which affect or occur on the station
26. Investigate all accidents and incidents ensuring they are properly reported
27. Maintain staff discipline and carry out managing for attendance interviews as required
28. Management of all uniform, name badge, safety shoes and personal protective equipment provided is worn as required
29. Any other duties commensurate with the grade and post and as required.
30. Endeavour to help to support the provision of Network Rail values
In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:

  • Previous rail operations experience
  • Experience of a customer service environment would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of Network Rail operations and geography
  • Experience of managing other staff
  • Safe work Leader skills
  • PTS Holder
  • Skills Assessor accreditation

Salary: SIG.7 50,018. Network Rail adheres to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the pay range advertised.
