Early Commercial Strategy Director, Respiratory Vaccines

As an Early Commercial Director, Respiratory Vaccines, you will play a strategic role and be a key member of the broader Global Vaccines Commercial Team. This position reports to a Senior Global Director, Commercial and Portfolio Strategy team, Global Vaccines Commercial group. The role will be based at one of GSK\xe2\x80\x99s major sites; Wavre BE, London UK, Philadelphia US, or Boston US with some flexibility in Europe or East Coast US on locations for the right candidate.

The Vaccine Commercial & Portfolio Strategy group core functions are:

Lead the development of the GSK Vaccines portfolio strategy Develop commercial evaluation of key assets within the GSK vaccine R&D pipeline, covering vaccines and associated targeted immunotherapy products Lead the commercial development of asset and therapy area strategies Build robust forecasts aligned to strategy and delivering assets through appropriate governance Support business development with commercial assessments

As the Early Commercial Director, Respiratory Vaccines your role is to develop & lead the early commercial strategy work that underpins co-created optimized Target Vaccine Profiles and vaccine forecast valuations. This work is required to secure GSK\xe2\x80\x99s confidence and enthusiasm to invest in continuing vaccine development to deliver competitive assets for future commercial success. In your role, you could be involved in a wide range of vaccines, across diseases, technology platforms and life cycle, from discovery to life cycle management, but the core focus of this role will be Respiratory.

Critical to the success of this position is an ability to demonstrate the value of strong commercial partnership with the R&D organization, whilst championing the need for patient, health care professional, recommending body and payer focus during early development. This role also requires the ability to build effective collaboration with our key markets (US, Japan, China, Germany) and regions to develop global strategy informed by and aligned with our stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Sit as a core member of early- and/or late-stage Vaccine Development Teams (VDTs) for GSK\xe2\x80\x99s Vaccine pipeline and lead the commercial activities within those assigned asset/s
  • Develop credible, ambitious strategies for our candidate vaccines to meet future customer needs
  • Estimate and validate commercial assumptions, developing robust, evidence-based global market and asset forecasts and valuations for pipeline vaccines as they progress through development milestones and governance decision points.
  • Provide market landscapes and therapy area overviews and situation analyses to support strategy and trade off decisions associated with investment proposals
  • Support your recommendations with appropriate competitive intelligence, customer insights, secondary data, market analogues or bespoke market research, showing creativity to build confidence and ambition for our assets, judgement to determine the level of validation needed, and maturity to manage time and budget to optimal effect.
  • Interact extensively with the respective R&D project teams, priority markets, regional leads across the commercial, market access, S&O and medical organizations.
  • Develop the analyses and identify the relevant customer insights to generate hypotheses
  • Support the GVCPS leadership with development of portfolio strategy
  • Support business development assessments on an ass needed basis
Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in science or business
  • Significant number of years of relevant industry experience in healthcare; pharmaceutical (medical or marketing/sales background), management consultancy or financial institution with a thorough understanding of the vaccine/drug development and commercialization process (i.e., roles in early commercial, marketing, business development, insights and analytics, forecasting, pricing and market access, development, portfolio analytics)
Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Experience in the US Market
  • Experience leading commercial function(s) within sizeable markets (e.g. BU head or Director, for functions including Sales, Marketing or Market Access)
  • Experience in Vaccines
  • MBA, or postgraduate studies in medicine, sciences, business and/or strategy
  • Equity analyst experience with investment bank and/or PE or VC investment experience (deal origination etc.) Or medical scientist with investment decision experience in R&D.
  • Corporate/Business Unit/Therapy Area/Brand strategy development experience, Early asset/clinical development experience, Portfolio analysis/analytics experience
  • Credibility and proven experience of leadership in a cross-functional matrix environment
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills and the ability to create strong working relationships across functions and geographies
  • Highly effective communication at all levels of the organization, including the ability to challenge, inspire and influence
  • Ability to work as an individual contributor, member and leader of a team
  • Analytical skills and the ability to synthesize information from multiple data sources
  • Strong prioritization and decision-making
  • Ability to navigate complex business challenges
  • Ability to independently identify and assess opportunities, mitigating risks and issues
  • High-level of personal accountability and able to work independently to achieve objectives
