Editor Dk Life

London, United Kingdom

Job Description

DK, a world leader in illustrated non-fiction publishing, is looking for an Assistant Editor/ Editor to join our DK Life division to help them grow a new list of commercial narrative nonfiction titles. You will be joining a small team and play an integral role in helping to drive the creative direction and growth of this exciting new list. This role is a great opportunity for an ambitious self-starter with strong editorial abilities looking to accelerate their career.

As an Assistant Editor/ Editor for the DK Life team, your day to day tasks will include:

  • Assisting in timely delivery and quality control of new print and digital products for local and global trade markets
  • Liaising with freelancers and ensuring book schedules are kept on track
  • Nurturing and growing good relationships with agents, authors and freelancers
  • Providing editorial feedback on submissions and manuscripts under development
  • Generating new ideas for the list and developing these for potential acquisition
  • Providing strong administrative support to the Editorial Director\'s responsibilities
This role will also involve managing your own work schedule, some monitoring of budgets, and working with out-of-house resources.

This role reports directly to the Editorial Director, however you will also work closely with the Jacket Coordinators and Sales, with regular engagement with the design team, production, marketing and publicity, providing you with a holistic experience of the publishing process.

This role would suit someone with initiative, who can work collaboratively to contribute new ideas. We are looking for someone who sees solutions not problems, and who is excited by the opportunity to build a list from the ground up. You will have great project management skills, exposure to negotiations and some commercial editorial experience. Although existing InDesign experience would be desirable, it is not essential. Our ideal new team member will be innovative, resourceful, and comfortable working to strict deadlines.

This is a rare opportunity to develop your career, building a new list, in an environment that places a strong emphasis on learning and growth.

If this sounds like the role for you, please apply by submitting your CV and cover letter. We want to get to know you, please include the following prompts in your cover letter:
  • What\'s one book that\'s been published in the last year that you wished you could have worked on? And/or;
