Bloomsbury Academic publish high quality print and digital resources for the higher education market globally. We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Editorial Assistant to join our friendly Politics, Psychology and Sociology team within the Student Learning department.

Supporting the Commissioning Editor and Publisher, the Editorial Assistant will have the opportunity to work on a variety of market-leading textbooks and digital learning resources for university-level students. The role will entail working primarily with the Politics and International Relations programme, supporting on all aspects of the publishing process from new proposals through to publication. This is an ideal role for a talented individual who is keen to develop their career in publishing.

The role

  • Supporting the team to meet annual commissioning, publishing and profitability targets
  • Helping to coordinate and develop textbooks and digital resources through all stages of the publishing process
  • Liaising with authors and academic advisors, and colleagues across editorial, production, marketing, sales and digital
  • Using publishing systems to set up titles and manage editorial processes
  • Assisting in the editorial workflow for digital content, including using content management systems
  • Conducting course, competitor and other market research
  • Managing the peer review process for proposals and draft manuscripts
  • Assessing and preparing manuscripts for handover to production
  • Checking content for third party material and arranging copyright permissions
  • Briefing cover designs and writing cover copy
  • Dealing with queries and checking proofs for titles in production

  • Numerate, with experience of using Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel
Additional information

The role is a full-time (35 hours per week) and on a 12-month fixed-term contract

Salary Pay Point: \xc2\xa327,000

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Wednesdays and Thursdays

As an Assistant role, this position is eligible for Bloomsbury\'s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To assist candidates who want to start and to establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest-free rental deposit to support securing somewhere to live. The rental deposit loan can be up to \xc2\xa33,000 and will be paid back over 2 years.
