Editorial Director Non-fiction (non-commissioning) mat cover, Bloomsbury Adult Consumer division

This role is a maternity cover position our department, working on titles acquired, edited and published by the non-fiction Editorial Director responsible primarily for the areas of popular culture, memoir, ideas and upmarket celebrity, alongside some other non-fiction projects.

The role reports to the Publishing Director for Non-fiction.

The role

The Editorial Director will edit and publish bestselling and prize-winning non-fiction. They will build relationships with well-known authors and agents. They will help foster a culture of professionalism, excellence and success, and help less senior colleagues learn how to publish well, developing good relationships across the business, particularly with sales, marketing and publicity.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • To deliver viable, creative, innovative publishing that is commercially successful and prize-winning.
  • Will be responsible for structural editing and advising author on their text.
  • Take books from pitch to publication and drive strategy for their publishing, working with the sales, marketing and publicity teams to achieve these goals.
  • Overseeing their publishing on the NF list, ensuring that critical path is kept to for their books.
  • Review, develop, maintain and deliver profitable publishing of their books in line with divisional targets.
  • Represent Bloomsbury internally and externally in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Maintain team spirit and positivity and encourage and demand the highest standards from team members across the division.
  • Communicate confidently with a network of authors, agents and keep colleagues on side and work effectively under pressure.
  • Work closely with authors to help structure and shape their books, so that they are both authoritative and accurate, but written with a strong commercial focus.
Additional information

The role is a full-time role fixed contract for a minimum of nine months, starting around 1st February 2024.

Salary Pay Point or Range: up to \xc2\xa348,000 depending on skills and experience

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are Monday and Tuesday
