At Imperial Engineering, we're a dynamic and growing Electrical Design and Build contractor based in Manchester. We specialise in commercial and industrial electrical projects valued up to 2 million. As we continue to grow, we're looking to strengthen our internal design capability with a skilled Electrical Design Engineer who is both technically proficient and commercially aware.
Your Role
You'll take a key role in delivering robust, compliant electrical designs that support our construction teams and enhance project efficiency. We're looking for someone who enjoys problem-solving, thrives in a collaborative setting, and brings hands-on knowledge of electrical systems design.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and specify electrical systems for commercial and industrial projects
Produce clear schematics, layouts, and supporting documents for tender and construction
Carry out calculations using Amtech or similar tools
Contribute to lighting designs using Relux or Dialux (beneficial)
Conduct condition surveys and generate engineering reports
Engage in technical issue resolution with engineers and project teams
Attend site surveys and client meetings to support design proposals
Liaise with internal site teams to provide necessary drawings and technical information
Support procurement through technical review and equipment selection
Collaborate with site managers and engineers to ensure smooth installation and commissioning
What You'll Bring
HNC (or higher) in Electrical or Building Services Engineering
Experience in designing commercial electrical systems of various scales
Familiarity with design software such as Amtech, AutoCAD, and Revit (preferred but not essential)
Experience with fire alarm and security system design is a bonus
An understanding of HVAC and mechanical systems is also advantageous
Strong communication and organisational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a design team
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project)
