Role requirements
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Electrical Foreman, ideally with mining experience, to join our team at South Crofty. In this role, you will be at the heart of our operations, ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our electrical assets both underground and on the surface. These assets include the Underground Electrical Network, Hoisting and Winders, as well as the Mineral Processing Plant.
As Electrical Foreman, you will lead a team of electricians along with Instrumentation, PLC, and SCADA Technicians, all responsible for maintaining the mine's complete electrical reticulation system. This system spans from high, medium, and low voltage networks, incomers through to the mine-wide distribution infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include specifying electrical equipment requirements, developing and executing maintenance strategies, and overseeing inspections, testing, and condition monitoring. You will ensure that all electrical work is carried out in strict compliance with safety regulations, statutory requirements, and industry standards.
Ultimately, your leadership and expertise will be instrumental in strengthening and maintaining our electrical infrastructure, ensuring that equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably so that our production goals are consistently achieved.

Principle responsibilities/role tasks
Specific duties as part of the role include, but are not limited to, the following: -
Safety Management:
Oversee all safety aspects within assigned areas, ensuring safety talks are conducted, hazards are identified and mitigated, and Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are developed and effectively implemented.
Workplace Oversight:
Conduct Planned Task Observations (PTOs) and perform regular inspections to maintain high standards of operational safety and quality.
Team Leadership:
Manage a team of electricians and instrument technicians (SCADA & PLC), focusing on time management, competency assessments, and providing technical guidance and support.
Preventive Maintenance:
Design, implement, and monitor electrical preventive maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
Electrical Maintenance:
Supervise and coordinate all electrical maintenance activities for mining equipment and machinery, including troubleshooting and rectifying electrical defects.
Root Cause Analysis:
Perform RCA to identify underlying issues and implement corrective actions.
Work Management Systems:
Lead the electrical department's work management processes, including work identification, planning, scheduling, execution, and maintaining equipment history records.
Shift Coordination:
Organize and manage shift line-ups and handovers to ensure seamless operational continuity.
Compliance Assurance:
Ensure adherence to standards and safety protocols within the mining electrical reticulation network and supporting electrical systems.
Contractor Oversight:
Manage contractors within the area of responsibility, ensuring all work meets South Crofty standards.
Budget & Cost Control:
Assist in budget development, monitor expenditures, and report on electrical costs within the area of responsibility.
Procurement & Inventory:
Collaborate with stores and procurement teams, acting as the responsible person for all electrical spares required across the mine site.

Working Environment
This is an on-site role based at South Crofty mine. While mainly desk based, it will involve some/regular movement around the site, including underground, for meetings, training and project related activities as well as occasional external meetings across the UK.
Key relationships
The role will report to the Site Electrical Engineer, but there will be frequent interaction with a variety of other members such as Mechanical Foreman, Mine Captains, Shift Managers the Project Teams. External relationships will include suppliers and external contractors.

The key skills and experience which are expected for this role are:
hands-on technical knowledge, strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication to manage teams and report to management, and excellent time and resource management to prioritize tasks and ensure safety protocols are followed.
Electrical Engineering Expertise:
HNC/HND certified and apprenticeship-trained, with deep technical knowledge of electrical systems

Extensive Industry Experience:
10+ years as an electrician, including supervisory leadership in mining or heavy engineering environment.
Leadership & Team Development:
Adept at motivating, guiding, and training Electricians to achieve departmental objectives

Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking:
Resourceful in analysing complex issues, evaluating options, and implementing effective solutions under pressure.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement:
Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration across teams, departments, and external partners

Financial & Resource Management:
Experienced in budgeting, cost optimization, and efficient allocation of maintenance resources.
Adaptability & Innovation:
Embraces new technologies and equipment to enhance operational performance.
Strategic Maintenance Planning:
Proactive in developing preventive maintenance strategies to minimize downtime and equipment failures.
Desirable
Specialized Knowledge of Mining Equipment: Skilled in HV electrical infrastructure, winders and shafts, pumps, underground mobile mining equipment, and mineral/water processing plants.
Qualification to C&G 2382-22 (or equivalent)
Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or a Member of Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) or Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IM3) or another relevant institution
I.E.T Regulations BS7671 i.e. 18th Edition Wiring Regs
Experience in Safety Auditing
Working knowledge of the Mines Regs 2014 and HSG 278 (Electrical Safety in Mines)
NEBOSH General Certificate or IOSH Managing Safely (Or equivalent Industrial Safety Course)
Be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) etc.

Full Time 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday, based at the South Crofty Mine site in Pool, Redruth. The role may occasionally require availability outside standard working hours to support operational activities and other events.
