As an Electrical Training Officer, you'll support apprentices and employers across the London region, helping develop the next generation of skilled electricians. You'll use your industry knowledge to assess competence, guide learning, and ensure high-quality training outcomes -without being on site with tools every day.
Job Purpose
To deliver a high-quality assessment, mentoring and learner support service within a defined region, managing apprentice caseloads and supporting employer engagement in line with regional business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and support a caseload of electrical apprentices, providing regular reviews, progress checks and guidance
Work closely with electrical contractors and employers to source suitable apprentice placements and secure college attendance
Ensure employers fully understand their responsibilities and assessment requirements at recruitment stage
Engage with schools, careers services and local stakeholders to promote careers in electrical installation and building services
Carry out initial assessments and skills-gap analyses to confirm correct programme placement
Complete employer pre-placement and compliance checks in line with organisational procedures
Assess apprentice evidence against National Occupational Standards and awarding body requirements
Provide clear, constructive feedback and set SMART development targets
Agree realistic gateway and completion timelines based on individual learner progress
Support apprentices with evidence submission and portfolio mapping
Prepare learners for End Point Assessment (EPA) and confirm readiness at gateway
Identify learners at risk of non-completion and implement timely interventions
Maintain effective communication with employers, learners and internal teams
Build strong relationships with industry partners and support attendance at sector events when required
Maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with awarding body and assessor standards
Follow safeguarding and Prevent procedures, reporting concerns appropriately
Essential Requirements
Fully qualified Electrician with one of the following:
NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical / Electrical Installation
Recognised electrical apprenticeship or equivalent
Level 3 Certificate in Electrical Installation Theory & Practice
Proven, verifiable experience working as a qualified electrical operative or practitioner
Current knowledge of IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition) or willingness to update
GCSE English and Maths (A-C / 9-4) or equivalent qualifications
Desirable (but not essential)
Assessor qualifications (A1, D32/D33, TAQA or equivalent)
Testing & Inspection qualification (2391 or equivalent)
Health & Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely)
Experience within building services engineering or related construction sectors
Previous mentoring, supervising, training or coaching experience
