We are seeking a hands-on Electrical Quality Engineer with deep technical expertise in on-site installation inspection, commissioning verification, and field troubleshooting. This hybrid role bridges the gap between site execution and product quality, ensuring our electrical systems meet technical, regulatory, and safety standards from factory floor to final installation.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in electrical engineering, site inspections, installer oversight, commissioning activities, and has a solid grounding in quality control, diagnostics, and root cause analysis. Field presence, technical authority, and a proactive mindset are essential.
Key Duties:
Conduct in-depth inspections of installed electrical systems: LV/MV switchgear, tap of units, distribution.
Lead and/or support commissioning activities including protective relay validation, functional testing of control panels, earthing systems, and system integration.
Act as the on-site technical liaison for contractors, installers, and customers.
Lead inspection and testing of electrical components and assemblies during in-house production.
Audit supplier installation practices and electrical build quality.
Generate detailed site reports, inspection forms, commissioning certificates, and NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports).
Work with Engineering, Quality, Production, Supply Chain, Project Manager, and Commercial teams to align technical expectations and field realities.
Maintain professional, tactful communication in high-pressure scenarios, using patience, and conflict resolution techniques to manage challenging customers or disputes effectively.
Provide on-site rapid response for urgent electrical failures or system malfunctions, including immediate diagnostics, customer reassurance, and follow-up corrective actions.
Job Competences/Key skills:
Degree/HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering.
18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent inspection & testing certification.
Proficient with electrical drawings, wiring schematics and system layouts.
Strong knowledge of LV/MV systems, switchgear, control panels, VFDs and protection devices.
Hands-on use of electrical test tools: insulation testers, thermal cameras, loop impedance testers, etc.
Proven ability to handle difficult or dissatisfied customers, using active listening, de-escalation skills, and problem resolution techniques to maintain strong relationships.
Experience managing commercial relationships with customers, subcontractors, and distributors, ensuring alignment between technical execution and commercial expectations.
Skilled in navigating contract technical obligations, warranty implications, and service commitments while maintaining customer confidence.
Strong customer-facing presence with excellent communication, negotiation, and diplomacy skills in both technical and commercial contexts.
Experience resolving on-site electrical problems in real-time under operational or customer pressure.
Willingness to travel and work independently on-site.
Desirable Skills/Requirements
5+ years in field-based electrical inspection, commissioning, or technical support.
Competencies and Qualifications to become a NICEIC Qualified Supervisor in future.
Experience in applying IEC, UL, ISO and BS EN standards.
Skilled in root cause analysis and structured problem-solving.
Working Hours:
Monday - Friday from 08:30 to 16:30 (37.5hrs per week)
Salary and Benefits:
40,000 - 42,000 per annum DOE
25 days holiday per annum, plus Public Bank Holidays
