As we continue to grow and take on new challenges, we are recruiting to expand our Electrical/controls Design team. We are looking to appoint an experienced multi-disciplined Electrical Designer who will be working as part of a supportive team in a dynamic environment, working on the design and documentation of bespoke control systems for cutting-edge machinery in the Automation Industry. You would be based out of our Engineering solutions office in Plymouth, a large 140k square feet facility.
Main Purpose of Role
The right candidate will have proven electrical/Pneumatic design disciplines, as they will be closely involved with the conceptual electrical/pneumatic design of controls systems to control bespoke automation machinery within a variety of industries. The role incorporates design, component specification, parts list generation, risk assessment of controls systems and generation of supporting CE documentation. This position will call for experience in the use of relevant software (e.g. Eplan, Sistema or Pilz safety software). You will need excellent IT skills, as the requirement is to design and generate both electrical/Pneumatic schematics, wiring schedules and complete system documentation packages, this will be a key feature of the role. The right candidate must also possess good communication skills for customer presentation/ liaison purposes.
Role & Responsibilities -:
Within our Electrical Design team, we focus on providing high quality Designs of controls systems ensuring that they are safe, accurate, innovative, cost effective and produced on time e to support project delivery. As an Electrical Design Engineer, your roles and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:-
Initial meetings with customers/sale team to gather requirements
Attend concept meetings
Investigate potential solutions
Communicate with customers and other engineers to clarify requirements / meet specifications
Responsible for accurately and timely generation of electrical system architecture drawings assigned to each customer project
PLCs and HMIs Remote I/O Systems
Variable Speed Drives
Servo Motors
Robots
Printer
etc.
Generation of technical file assigned to each customer project comprising of:-
Controls design build folder
Parts lists and recommended spares for controls components
Safety requirement specification generation (SRS) Risk assessment generation for Safety-related parts of control systems, using Pilz or Sistma.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, project managers, programmers and electrical engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into overall project designs
Technically lead projects
Meeting project budgets and project timelines
To work closely with manufacturing department to inform and answer queries during assembly/test stages
Attend factory and/or site acceptance testing with customer
Stay updated on emerging technologies, trends, best practices in electrical engineering, ensuring machines are compliant to the latest standards.
Key Skills and Experience
Good understanding of electronics & electrical engineering.
Able to lead a project through development to manufacturing.
Ability to work on a variety of projects.
Good communication skills to colleagues and customers, both written and orally
Excellent people skills and work ethic.
To be able to resolve problems quickly and efficiently as required for each successful project.
Minimum of 2 years industry related experience.
Essential
Formal engineering qualification in electrical design.
Have a Good knowledge and expertise in the design and speciation of industrial control systems.
A good knowledge of Eplan circuit design software. Familiarity with safety system design principles.
Power distribution design, Safety circuitry design, Technical documentation.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel).
Strong understanding of electrical principles, including; BS EN60204-1 Safety of machinery Electrical equipment of machines, BS EN ISO 13849-1 Safety of machinery - Safety-related parts of control systems and NFPA 79 Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery
Desirable
Understanding of UL508A Industrial Control Panels electrical principles
A good knowledge of Sistema or Pilz safety requirements software
Component knowledge of Omron, Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi, B&R, Turck Banner, Pilz products
Qualifications
Apprenticeship background or demonstrable practical experience in automation systems
Preferably an HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar discipline
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customers sites (including overseas assignments).
