About us



Smart 11+ Tuition is a small, friendly, independent tuition company in the West Midlands. Our goal is to provide high quality tuition for the KS2 SATs and the 11+ examination for grammar school. We are looking for tutors with a passion to see students succeed at our tuition centres in Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Harborne and Kings Heath.

Our tuition provision is structured around quality teaching and nurturing children, rather than constant testing and pressure. We support parents to understand the complexities of the 11+ process and provide transparent and honest feedback. We strive to build good relationships with our pupils and parents and provide them with exceptional customer service.

We are looking for tutors who can teach KS2 English and/or Maths. Our curriculum also includes Verbal Reasoning and Non-verbal Reasoning at 11+ exam level. Training will be provided if required for this curriculum.

The Role



Please note, this role is for face-to-face tuition which takes place in our tuition centres.

This role is until mid-September 2026, in line with the 11+ exam, with the potential to renew the contract for another year until the following mid-September.

Working hours are regular each week and vary by location. They include:

- Saturdays 8:15-1:40pm and/or

- Tuesdays 4:50pm-8:30pm and/or

- Wednesdays 4:50pm-8:30pm

The opportunity to work additional hours during the week may be available for the right candidate and pending the company's requirements.

Responsibilities



1. Guiding small groups of pupils through our curriculum using the resources provided by the company.

2. Motivating pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative teaching.

3. Providing a nurturing environment in which students' confidence can grow.

4. Marking work with thorough written and verbal feedback to facilitate positive pupil development.

5. Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils' development.

6. Providing feedback to parents and carers on a pupil's progress.

7. Attend a breakfast meeting on 1 x Saturday per block (3 x block per academic year).

Requirements



1. It is preferred that applicants have or be working towards QTS, OR a teaching/teaching assistant qualification, OR have relevant experience working with children in a professional learning environment. If you do not have any of this experience, please do not apply.



2. Educated to degree level is preferred but not essential providing Point 1 is accurate.

3. Commitment to punctuality and completing the contract.

4. Excellent subject knowledge and communication skills.

5. Ability to develop positive rapport with students.

6. Ability to nurture and help build confidence in our students.

7. Ability to provide structured and positive feedback to parents.

8. Enhanced DBS with Barred Lists clearance or be willing to apply.

9. No Childcare Disqualification or Teacher Prohibition Order.

10. For non-British nationals, the right to work in the UK.

Important Notes



This role is on a self-employed contractor basis, with the initial contract until mid-September. The contract ends on the final week prior to the 11+ exam, of which the date is announced in Spring. You must be available to work up until this exam date.

The opportunity for contract renewal will be discussed with you prior to the start of the subsequent academic year.

There is a 1-month probation period. After 1-month you will have a review meeting with the Principal or Associate Principal.

Rate of pay is dependent on level of qualification and experience.
