ENGLISH LEAD TEACHER

West Yarner

Support, nurture, inspire, empower

On Track Education

On Track Education provides specialist education for young people with diverse and complex needs. Established in 2004 by a dedicated team of Special Educational Needs (SEN) teachers, we now operate nine independent schools across England. At the heart of our philosophy is a commitment to providing a nurturing, personalised, and needs-led educational experience, aiming to restore young people's self-confidence and self-motivation through flexible programmes that combine academic, vocational, and outdoor learning opportunities.

About On Track West Yarner

On Track Education West Yarner is an independent special school for pupils aged 7-16, offering 40 places across two sites in Dartington and Seale Hayne. We provide small group and individualised learning tailored to pupils with a range of special educational needs, with a strong focus on social, emotional and communication development. Our motivational and progressive curriculum is underpinned by the therapeutic principles of THRIVE, supporting each pupil's personal growth and resilience. At the heart of our approach are the strong, trusting relationships between staff and pupils, creating a safe, inclusive environment where every young person is supported to overcome barriers, thrive, and achieve their true potential.

The role

As English Lead Teacher, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering an engaging, inclusive English curriculum that meets the diverse needs of our learners. You will inspire a love of language, literature and communication, ensuring every pupil can make progress, build confidence, and achieve success.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

Leading the planning, delivery and ongoing development of the school's English curriculum, ensuring it is adaptive, creative and responsive to the pupils' needs.

Supporting and coaching colleagues to implement high-quality, individualised approaches to teaching English, embedding consistency and best practice across the school.

Developing curriculum plans that identify clear targets, success criteria and assessment methods, aligned to each pupil's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Teaching English to small groups and individuals, ensuring lessons are accessible, motivating and designed to build literacy, communication and emotional engagement.

Working collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that social, emotional and academic needs are supported holistically through the curriculum.

Monitoring and evaluating pupil progress in English, implementing targeted interventions where required to support continued improvement.

About You

We're looking for an inspiring and adaptable English Lead Teacher with a genuine passion for helping young people rediscover the joy of learning. You'll bring creativity, compassion and leadership to the role -- guiding both pupils and colleagues to achieve excellence in English across the school.

As our English Lead Teacher, you will:

Hold a recognised teaching qualification (QTS, QTLS or PGCE) and have a proven track record of delivering engaging, high-quality English teaching.

Demonstrate experience or a strong understanding of working within SEN, SEMH or specialist education settings, adapting your approach to meet individual needs.

Lead by example in curriculum planning and delivery, using a range of inclusive teaching styles and innovative methods to inspire diverse learners.

Support and mentor colleagues in delivering outstanding English provision, embedding consistent practice and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Show commitment to positive behaviour management and inclusive practice, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and build confidence in their abilities.

Use assessment and reflection to drive progress, ensuring every pupil achieves meaningful outcomes both academically and personally.

Hold a full driving licence and access to your own car, as the role may involve travel between school sites and delivering outreach in West Yarner.
