DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Equipment Inspector Management department is a key part of the Logistics function, a shared service for the MJ Quinn Telecoms and Energy divisions. The department ensures that testing equipment and assets for use by in-field engineers are fit for purpose and compliant with relevant regulations.
The department consists of two main areas: an Equipment Inspector team, responsible for in-field auditing of engineers and their equipment, and the Service Centre Tooling Workshop, responsible for the testing, maintenance, repair, and calibration of equipment.
JOB OBJECTIVE
The Equipment Inspector Manager will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Equipment Inspector team, with the aim of delivering world-class services and creating a dynamic, forward-thinking team.
They will be responsible for overseeing the activities of the in-field team, to ensure compliance with regulations and to meet the business needs.
The Equipment Inspector Team Manager will work to develop a technically capable team, who are able to provide support to the in-field teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
Line management of the Equipment Inspector team, including provision of coaching and the management of workload, performance and absences
Ownership of the Inspector process, liaising with key stakeholders to ensure business and regulatory needs are met
Developing the technical capability of Equipment Inspector team, through the provision of internal and external training, to facilitate all required inspection activities
Ensuring all Inspecting activities are carried out in accordance with the relevant Health and Safety regulations
Ensuring all equipment and assets inspected in-field are fit for purpose and in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, or that documented actions are taken for any items out of compliance
Implementing and monitoring processes for auditing of safe working practices and equipment inspections
Ensuring the accurate recording and scheduling of auditing activities in the relevant IT database/system
Monitoring daily audit completion status and carrying out follow ups with Inspectors as necessary
Monitoring and carry out trend analysis for the costs within the Inspector team to develop efficiencies, including cost of spare parts, optimisation of van stocks and auditors' time
Ensuring availability of spare parts and consumables for Inspectors, to facilitate inspections and in-field replacement of non-compliant equipment
Visiting Equipment Inspectors throughout the UK to provide support and guidance if required
Attending departmental meetings, as required, including the Service Delivery Tooling Committee meeting and relevant Health and Safety meetings
Through having the Train the Trainer accreditation, coordinating auditor training on new equipment or technology and providing refresher training for relevant courses
Ensuring Inspector accreditations are up to date
Inspecting the Equipment Inspectors to ensure that their equipment and working practices are compliant
Developing and monitoring Key Performance Indicators for in-field inspection activities, for example percentage of audits completed according to required timeframe
Acting as back-up for Inspectors during periods of absence or high workload

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE
Essential
Inspecting/Auditing experience, in particular safety aspects of tooling/assets
At least 3 years of line management experience, particularly with leading remote workers
Demonstrated experience working according to key health and safety and regulatory requirements for equipment inspection and calibration
Desirable
Telecommunications industry experience
Experience working with Telecommunications test equipment
Equipment PAT testing and calibration experience
SKILLS
Essential
Understand and demonstrate good leadership skills
Organisational, planning and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate effectively within all levels of the business and with external parties
Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Excel and Outlook
Ability to respond quickly and effectively to changes in a proactive manner
Desirable
Ability to analyse data and generate reports to track and improve department performance
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Essential
Minimum 5 GCSE passes (grade C or 4), including English and Maths
Full UK driving licence
Auditing qualifications, e.g. Ladder inspection, harness inspection, PPE inspection
Desirable
Train the Trainer accreditation
Educated to A-level or degree standard
Health and Safety qualifications, e.g. IOSH Managing Safely
PAT Testing certification
