About the Role
This is a hands-on, full cycle estimating role. You'll be the main point of contact for all incoming tenders and quotes, working closely with our technical and project teams to interpret client requirements, carry out take-offs, arrange site surveys, and submit high-quality, commercially-sound tenders.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the first point of contact for all new tenders and enquiries
Review scope and documentation; confirm go/no-go decisions with management
Extract and interpret client requirements from specs and drawings
Prepare detailed cost estimates using our in-house spreadsheet system
Conduct research to ensure competitive pricing on materials and services to produce cost savings.
Carry out drawing take-offs and arrange or attend site surveys
Capture photos, measurements, and plant/service data during surveys
Coordinate and submit tenders - electronic, postal, or hand-delivered
Source and liaise with suppliers and subcontractors
Produce project variation quotations during live project stages
Maintain accurate tender records and support handovers to delivery teams
Bring order and pace to our estimating function.
Build strong working relationships across the company and with our suppliers.
Improve win rates and support smoother project handovers.
What We're Looking For
Experience as a commercial M&E Estimator who understands estimating intimately and can handle both mechanical and electrical packages.
Strong grasp of building services and how systems go together on real-world projects.
Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
Knowledge of cost control principles is essential
Comfortable interpreting drawings, spec packs, and compliance documents.
Familiarity with compliance, standards, and value engineering principles.
Familiar with education, defence, and public sector work would be advantageous
Practical mindset - able to identify issues, clarify scope, and spot risks early
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
A self-starter with natural initiative - someone who spots what needs doing and just gets on with it.
Staying organised under pressure, resilient and calm when dealing with vague or inconsistent information
Skilled in MS Office with Excel to a high level
AutoCAD advantageous
