We are seeking an experienced Estimator / Sales Engineer to identify new opportunities, prepare accurate cost estimates, and help secure steelwork projects. This role is central to the business and suits someone comfortable working across estimating, client liaison, and pre-contract activities in a small-company environment.
Key Responsibilites
Estimating & Pricing
Review drawings, specifications, and enquiry documents
Prepare detailed estimates for structural and architectural steelwork
Calculate material, labour, subcontract, and installation costs
Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors for pricing
Identify risks, assumptions, and value-engineering opportunities
Prepare and submit quotations and tender documents
Sales & Business Development
Identify and pursue new steelwork opportunities
Build and maintain relationships with clients, contractors, and consultants
Attend client meetings, site visits, and pre-tender discussions
Negotiate prices and scope with clients to secure work
Follow up quotations and convert enquiries into orders
Skills & Experience
Essential
Experience in steelwork estimating (structural and/or architectural)
Experience in procuring jobs/sourcing new customers
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Strong commercial awareness and numerical skills
Confident communication with clients and suppliers
Organised, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently
Good IT skills
Demonstrate time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously, and efficiently prioritise tasks
Desirable
Background in steel fabrication and/or erection
Knowledge of UK construction contracts and tendering processes
Experience working in a small or medium-sized steelwork company
HNC/HND or equivalent in Engineering or Construction (or time-served experience)
