We are seeking an experienced Evening Shift Supervisor/Welder to take on a dual-role position, combining hands-on welding duties with the supervisory responsibilities of overseeing our night shift welding operations. This role requires both technical expertise and leadership skills to ensure that production runs efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.
The successful candidate will have prior supervisory experience and be a qualified MAG/MIG welder. Familiarity with welding standards in accordance with UKCA Marking (BS EN 1090-2) and the ability to carry out welding activities to Execution Class 3 (EXC3) is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Supervision: Oversee a small team of night-shift welders, assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide support or guidance as needed.
Quality & Safety Compliance: Ensure all welding activities meet company quality standards and safety protocols. Enforce the proper use of PPE and adherence to approved welding procedures.
Production Oversight: Monitor workflow and progress to ensure production targets and deadlines are met without compromising quality.
Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve any welding or operational issues that may arise during the shift.
Hands-On Welding: Perform welding tasks as required, particularly in areas of high priority or technical complexity.
Liaison with RWC: Report to and collaborate with the Responsible Welding Coordinator on performance metrics, quality concerns, and continuous improvement opportunities.
Skills and Qualifications:
Supervisory Experience: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team, including task delegation and performance monitoring.
Proven Welding Expertise: Proficiency in MAG/MIG welding (essential), with additional skills in TIG or Stick welding considered an advantage. Previous welder approval test certificates must be provided.
Knowledge of Standards: Strong understanding of welding codes, safety regulations, and best practices.
Cranes and Hoists: Experience operating wall-mounted jib cranes and overhead cranes is essential. Possession of relevant training records or certification would be advantageous.
Slinging and Signalling: Must be competent in safely slinging and moving heavy or abnormal loads. Strong communication skills are required to coordinate effectively with others during lifting operations.
Technical Aptitude: Ability to interpret engineering drawings and effectively use welding equipment and tools.
Problem-Solving Ability: Skilled in diagnosing and addressing welding or production issues efficiently.
Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for coordination with team members and other departments.
