An opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced and detail-oriented
Bookkeeper
to join our established and growing accounts team. This role is ideally suited to a candidate with a strong background in bookkeeping and VAT, who is confident working in a small but busy office environment.
Role Overview:
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day bookkeeping and VAT duties for a portfolio of clients or internal accounts. A high level of proficiency with
Sage
and
Xero
accounting software is essential. You will also provide support and guidance to junior members of the team as required, ensuring a high standard of work and continued development within the department.
A working knowledge of upcoming changes related to
Making Tax Digital
would be highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities:
Processing and maintaining accurate financial records
Preparation and submission of VAT returns
Bank reconciliations and ledger maintenance
Month-end processes and reporting
Utilising
Sage
and
Xero
to manage accounts efficiently
Assisting with the training and supervision of junior staff
Liaising with clients, HMRC, and external stakeholders when required
Supporting compliance with current accounting standards and digital tax requirements
Candidate Requirements:
Significant prior experience in a bookkeeping role, ideally within a small office or accountancy practice
Strong working knowledge of
Sage
and
Xero
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise workload effectively
Professional, reliable, and proactive in approach
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A recognised bookkeeping or accounting qualification (e.g. AAT, ICB) is desirable but
not essential
for candidates with proven experience.
