Key Responsibilities in Family Law Paralegal Role

Supporting solicitors with a diverse caseload of family law matters including divorce, child arrangements, financial settlements, pre-nuptial and cohabitation agreements, and cases involving domestic abuse. Drafting and preparing court documents, witness statements, applications, and correspondence, ensuring compliance with current family law legislation and court requirements. Conducting legal research and assisting in the preparation of case summaries and bundles for hearings. Managing client communication--providing updates, answering queries, and gathering necessary information in a compassionate and professional manner. Liaising with clients, third parties, courts, barristers, and mediation services to progress files effectively and efficiently. Accurately maintaining files and case management systems, ensuring all actions are properly recorded and compliant with SRA, AML and GDPR standards.

Essential Skills and Experience for Family Law Paralegals

Prior experience as a paralegal or legal assistant within a family law practice, with the ability to handle tasks independently under solicitor supervision. Sound understanding of divorce, child law, financial disputes, and protective orders within the context of UK family law. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact empathetically with clients from all backgrounds. Meticulous attention to detail in drafting legal documents and preparing bundles for court proceedings. Strong organisational skills, including the management of multiple priorities and meeting strict deadlines. Proficient user of legal case management systems and Microsoft Office, with a willingness to learn new platforms and processes.
