As we grow, we're looking for a full-time Farm Shop Assistant to support the day-to-day running of the shop, deliver outstanding customer service, and help bring TVL's offering to life in every interaction.
Role Summary
As a Farm Shop Assistant, you'll play a central role on the shop floor. You'll welcome and assist customers, keep the space well-stocked and looking its best, and bring a genuine enthusiasm for good food and local products. You'll work closely with the Farm Shop Manager and wider team, and be involved in everything from unpacking deliveries to recommending the perfect cheese or loaf of bread. This is a role for someone who enjoys being hands-on, helpful, and part of a small, collaborative team.
Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service
? Provide a warm, friendly, and knowledgeable welcome to every customer.
? Assist with product recommendations, dietary queries, and general enquiries.
? Operate tills and handle transactions with accuracy and care.
? Help foster a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere for regulars and new customers alike.
Shop Presentation
? Replenish shelves and displays throughout the day, maintaining high visual standards.
? Keep all areas of the shop clean, organised and safe.
? Assist with creating attractive and seasonal product arrangements.
Stock Handling
? Receive and check deliveries against invoices.
? Rotate stock and monitor sell-by dates to ensure product quality.Support accurate stock counts and flag low inventory.
Team Contribution
? Communicate clearly and respectfully with colleagues and customers.
? Take initiative to spot and solve small issues before they become problems.
? Work collaboratively with the manager and other team members on shared goals.
Events & Community
? Occasionally support in-shop events, tastings or seasonal promotions.
Help represent TVL's values in everything you do, from product knowledge to customer care.
Person SpecificationEssential Experience & Skills
? Previous experience in retail, hospitality or customer-facing roles.
? Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
? Comfortable working on your feet, handling stock, and keeping pace during busy periods.
? Basic numeracy and confidence using tills or digital systems.
? Food safety & hygiene certification or willingness to complete
Desirable Experience
? Familiarity with food retail, fresh produce or a farm shop environment.
? Understanding of food safety and hygiene principles.
Interest in local food, sustainability, and seasonality.
