Overview
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Farm Shop, Cafe & Butchery Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our busy and new food business in Machynlleth. This is a key leadership role overseeing the retail element of the Farm Shop, a busy cafe and assisting with the handling of a butchery. Ensuring high standards of food quality, customer service, staff management and commercial performance.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about great food, local produce and delivering an excellent customer experience, with the ability to lead a team by example.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Leadership
Manage the daily operation of the farm shop, cafe and butchery
Lead, motivate and support the team across all departments
Create staff rotas, manage holidays and ensure adequate cover
Ensure smooth coordination between cafe, shop and butchery
Champion customer service and local produce
Utilise in-house made products
Manage Stock
Actively participate in the daily running of the premises
Manage cash handling
Be the appointed and responsible person for all Food Hygiene and HSE standards
Customer Experience
Deliver consistently excellent customer service
Handle customer feedback and resolve issues professionally
Maintain a welcoming, friendly and well-organised environment
Food Safety & Compliance
Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, health & safety and trading standards
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety across all areas
Oversee stock rotation, date checking and waste reduction
Stock & Commercial Management
Oversee ordering, stock control and supplier relationships
Monitor sales, margins and costs to maximise profitability
Support product development, seasonal offerings and promotions
Butchery & Product Standards
Work closely with the butchery team to ensure quality, presentation and availability
Ensure correct labelling, traceability and product knowledge within the team
Cafe Oversight
Oversee cafe service, food quality and presentation
Support menu development using local and seasonal produce
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Proven management experience in food retail, hospitality or butchery
Strong leadership and people-management skills
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Solid understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations
Organised, reliable and commercially aware
Desirable:
Experience working with or managing a butchery
Passion for local food, farming and sustainability
Experience in rural or independent food businesses
