Location:
Market Harborough, Leicestershire

About the Role
Barnardo's, the UK's largest children's charity, is proud to work in partnership with Leicestershire County Council to deliver innovative residential services for some of the county's most vulnerable children and families.
Welland House provides three self-contained flats for families facing challenges such as learning difficulties, domestic abuse, substance misuse, mental health issues, or trauma. During their stay, parents receive support from Barnardo's staff while undergoing parenting assessments.
Our team promotes best practices through guidance, role modelling, key work sessions, and practical advice--focusing on safety, routines, boundaries, and wellbeing.
Female-Only Requirement
Due to the nature of the service and the needs of the families we support--many of whom have experienced domestic abuse and trauma--this post is restricted to female applicants only. This is a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
Key Responsibilities
Build trusting, nurturing relationships that promote independence and wellbeing
Work collaboratively with parents/carers and professionals
Support the upkeep of the home, including cooking and cleaning
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records
Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures
Ensure a safe and secure environment at all times

Experience working with children, young people, and families
Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and bank holidays
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Willingness to attend mandatory training and supervision sessions during daytime hours
While Welland House will be your primary base, you may occasionally be asked to support our other Leicestershire Residential homes.

Pay & Reward FrameworkWe know that our colleagues go above and beyond in delivering our vital work, driven by their passion and commitment to Barnardo's values. We also know that we can only realise our ambitions and achieve better outcomes for more children, thanks to the talent, hard work and creativity of our people.
For all these reasons, we are committed to a new approach to pay and reward, to ensure it is fair, attractive and progressive, which was rolled out in April 2023. This is a positive change for the charity, and a part of our People & Culture Strategy. It will assist us in supporting colleagues to belong, thrive and grow in their colleague journey at Barnardo's and in time will offer clear routes of progression for colleagues in both their career and their pay.
Whilst the full pay band and salary range is advertised, our approach to starting salaries is to appoint between the minimum to mid-point of the pay band - this ensures that pay steps are available to reward our colleagues annually based on their contribution to excellence and alignment to our values and behaviours. More details on Barnardo's pay framework can be found upon application.
