Sheffield Forgemasters is an iconic steel production and engineering company. A global leader in the designing, manufacturing and delivering of world-class steel forgings and castings.



It is a great time to join Forgemasters, as the business goes through an ongoing period of growth and modernisation after being acquired by the UK Ministry of Defence In 2021. The acquisition has secured our role as a critical supplier to the next generation of UK defence programmes. As part of this programme of work our plant and equipment will be modernised over the next 10 years, creating new opportunities for the business and our colleagues.



Based at our 64 acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield, we are looking for a Fettler to join the team. The role involves skimming, grinding, shaving and sanding away imperfections on raw castings to the finish-quality required.

Role Responsibilities

Sand castings using manual and mechanical equipment.


Remove defects from casting surfaces.


Grind castings to specified standards.


Rectify welding work on castings using electrical and pneumatic grinding tools.


Ensure all duties are carried out according to quality and health and safety procedures.

About You

Ideally previous experience working in heavy engineering.


Experience as a Fettler is a distinct advantage, but not essential as full training will be provided.


Experience using grinding equipment and / or arc-air equipment is an advantage, but not essential as training will be provided.


Knowledge of foundry working is beneficial.


Ability to working as a part of a team.


Thorough understanding of health and safety in the workplace.


Willingness to undertake shift work is essential (shift details below).

Days/Hours of Work

Average of 37 hours per week: 3 shifts - Mornings - 6:00am to 1:00pm; Afternoons - 1:00pm to 8:00pm; Nights - 7:45pm - 6:00am.
