Finance Officer – Direct Payments

Job Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Finance Officer to join our Direct Payments & Social Care Finance team in our North Somerset team. This role encompasses the preparation of fortnightly and four weekly payment runs to several services and day to day management of inbox's, telephone and internal queries, management, and maintenance of their accounts across several systems and auditing spend from service users against care plans acceptable spend, ensuring service users are compliant with all relevant regulatory requirements.


This role works under the day-to-day guidance of the Senior Finance Officer and reporting to the Finance Service Manager.

Key tasks and responsibilities:



To work under the direction of the line manager to administer queries and payment runs in relation to Direct Payments and Social Care Payment Streams. Reconcile and report spend via client bank statements. Proactively handle enquiries delivering excellent customer service by responding to all queries within agreed service level agreements. Proactively work with alongside North Somerset Council in-house teams. Update and maintain North Somerset Council systems. Review and update procedure guides in line with continuous process improvement Ability to communicate efficiently to staff, members of the public and external customers. To ensure compliance with all health and safety legislation and associated codes or practices, and to complete regular online training sessions.

Essential Skills and Attributes:



Proven customer service experience Confidence in learning new and bespoke systems Strong and proven attention to detail Have a strong working knowledge of the Microsoft applications excel, word and outlook and browsers. Have a minimum of maths and English at GCSE level C or above (or equivalent) Experience in a finance position is desirable but not essential. Able to work effectively with a team and independently. Excellent telephone manner. Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a supportive and inclusive team culture.

Security vetting and checks:



All successful candidates must meet the government's Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).

External candidates: This includes a basic criminal record check (for unspent convictions) and an annual adverse finance check (for CCJs, IVAs, bankruptcies, Scottish decrees, or Administration Orders).*
Internal candidates: An annual adverse finance check will be required.*
