About the role





The Finance team is undergoing a transition and this is a newly created role seeking a Financial Accountant who will embrace operational change, pro-actively assist in leading the transition and take ownership of all aspects of accounting and some tax matters. This position will report to the Finance Director.





As part of a dynamic and growing organisation, you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders/providers, acting as a trusted advisor to provide financial information and implement Finance best practice. Collaborating with the FD to set up a monthly reporting process, ensuring full GAAP compliance and making sure key financial controls are in place including monthly balance sheet reconciliations.





This role combines technical and subject matter expertise, strategic advisory, and hands-on delivery to meet stakeholder expectations, foster strong relationships, and advocate for innovation and service excellence. The business is a low volume, high value transaction environment and has some international exposure.




Role responsibilities



As the Financial Accountant, you will:


Track revenue including accruing and deferring revenue when appropriate. Accrue and defer expenses where appropriate and ensure matching. Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations. Run the month end closing process ensuring timetable adhered to. Preparation of monthly accounts for review by FD. Support the audit process and liaison with Auditors in answering questions and providing timely information to support deadlines. Keep abreast of new accounting standards and implement where applicable. Assist in preparation of statutory accounts. Review the reconciliation of the Orderbook. Review VAT calculations and returns. Prepare Cashflow forecasting and assist with cashflow management. Review Payroll journal posting. Review Sales commissions calculations. Review technical accounting treatments including revenue recognition, expense matching, treatment of leases etc. Make recommendations for accounting systems enhancements and development. Ensure internal controls are adhered to and make suggestions for enhancing controls. Cover other team members tasks when they are away. Perform ad hoc project work as required by the FD.



Technical Skills/Experience




ACA or ACCA qualified through audit route. 2+ years post-qualification experience in a hands-on SME environment preferred but newly qualified also considered. Excellent Excel and Microsoft Office skills. Up to date knowledge of accounting standards. Enjoys rolling up sleeves and getting stuck into the detail. Able to work independently. Acute attention to detail.



Advantageous Skills/Experience:



Working with Xero. International experience in a multicurrency environment. Team management. Working in a similar industry.

Live within commutable distance of central London (currently Leicester Square tube station) for at least once a week office visits or as required. Legally able to work in the UK. Adaptable: Thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail. Career-focused and motivated: Looking to progress to a Financial Controller position in the medium-term.
