Job Description

The position of Financial Controller & Accountant is a central role to the company's operations, working within the company's global accounts teams and leading the finance team within the Gateshead Office, they will be working directly for the Chief Operating Officer.

The Financial Controller & Accountant is a senior position within the finance team, they will be focused on overseeing collection, analysis and consolidation of financial data to assist with the effective management of the company's finances, the role will be working for the wider West Nautical Group which encompasses both UK and EU companies.

The Financial Controller & Accountant must be very keen, enthusiastic and willing to put in the commitment to work with their peers. They will be responsible for the following tasks, as well as other tasks as directed by their line manager the pursuit of their role:

General job roles:



Managing day to day Company accounting operations, ensuring Xero is up to date and accurate at all times, uploading invoices/credit notes and accounting data entry with monthly reconciliations. Ensuring all transactions are recorded, filed and reported correctly. Liaising with colleagues from other departments for raising company invoices, checking credits and debits. Keeping track of costs that need to be recharged to our clients and raising our month end Management invoices. Track payment status of sale invoices and letting the Managing Director know which invoices are still outstanding at the end of each month. Payment of all company approved invoices. Liaising with suppliers to ensure all company purchase invoices are paid on time and any queries are dealt with. Managing company payroll. Managing general company accounting queries. Opening of new bank accounts and overseeing the operations of each account, being the banks main point of contact within WN. Preparation of yearly budgets and presenting them to Directors. Communication with heads of departments for budget variances that need investigated. Tracking company commissions and ensuring these are paid to the relevant employees. Overseeing all company insurances and ensuring it remains up to date and the company is always protected. Overseeing all company client KYC, running all processes and maintaining all documentation, ensuring it remains up to date and the company is always protected. Oversee relevant company software, identifying improvements when required. Be an internal software 'superuser' of Xero. Taking care of tax preparation duties or liaising with external tax accountants for tax preparation. Ensuring that the company meets the necessary tax requirements, and by being proactive and aware of the group of companies' taxation liabilities, reduces company taxes where possible within all rules and guidelines. Working with Directors to create financial strategies to successfully increase profitability via effective processes and controls. Overseeing all financial control activities, including review and analysis of monthly P&L. Provide Directors with accurate and comprehensive financial information. Lead with annual reviews/audits preparation. Making sure reporting meets compliant standards and statutory law and financial regulations. Detailing cashflow projections. Reporting on debtors and creditors. Handling accruals and prepayments. Preparation and analysis of management reporting package (Statement of financial position, profit and loss statement, Cash flow) based on data collected from entities. Presentation of financial results and key performance ratios to management. Analysis and preparation of other issues, including preparation of other analytical reports and presentations. Developing and mentoring the finance team including hand on support. Work within the company's "team" culture, sharing information and not being "insular". Always represent the company in the most professional manner. Provide holiday cover for the accounting team as required for company and client accounting. Work at Marine Chandlery one day per week (more if required) and manage their accounting including all payments.

Person Specification:



Min 5 GCSE's (A-C including Maths and English). Min 2 A levels or other post-school qualifications. Accountancy qualification. Previous experience using Xero accounting software. Have a valid driving license and own car transportation. Experience with the yachting or maritime industry terms is desirable. Previous experience as a financial controller, managing accounts teams. Strong communication skills alongside confident leadership and management skills. Strong analytical skills to effectively analyse financial reports. In depth knowledge of budgeting and financial forecasting. High levels of computer literacy. You will be hard-working and will need a high degree of accuracy. Experience with working with tight deadlines, short turnarounds for work and an exceptional level of detail. Able and willing to adapt to demands and changes in the workplace. Need to live within 45 minute commute from Gateshead Office.
