A vacancy has arisen for an experienced Financial Controller to lead a team in the longest established independent family run Italian restaurants in Wales. Our business has been around for over 40 years and is thriving. Our founder wants to spend more time on developing new projects such as a new sauce label and recipe books and you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day finance and reporting for the business. You will liaise with external accounting partners and report to the owner.
A hands-on Financial Controller in the restaurant business you will play a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of the operation and the next stages of its growth.
You will be responsible for the finance and accounts of 3 restaurants and the future revenue streams coming into the group.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting
Prepare regular financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
Provide timely and accurate financial information to management for decision-making
Payroll
Review HR-related paperwork before submitted for payroll processing.
Review staff hours on a weekly basis (in our time and attendance system) and prepare information ready for payroll processing.
Work with managers to ensure they forecast payroll/rota in advance.
Weekly reporting preparation:
Prepare the weekly overview report for the restaurants.
Presenting the reports in the weekly meetings
Liaising with restaurant managers in the matters of daily takings, cashing up, timesheets and payroll documentation
Organising training for restaurant managers and supervisors
Cost Control
Monitor and control costs, including food and beverage costs, labor costs, and overhead expenses
Implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality or customer satisfaction
Cash Management
Manage cash flow to ensure the restaurant has sufficient funds for daily operations.
Oversee the handling of cash and ensure proper controls are in place
Budgeting & Forecasting
Develop and manage the annual budget for the restaurant.
Create financial forecasts based on historical data and industry trends.
Monitor and analyze financial performance against budget and forecasts
Accounting & Complianc
Ensure compliance with accounting principles and standards.
Supervise and manage accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Work with external auditors and tax professionals to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
Inventory Management
Implement effective inventory control procedures to minimize waste and losses.
Monitor and analyze inventory levels and costs.
Vendor Management
Negotiate with suppliers to secure favorable terms and pricing.
Evaluate vendor performance and identify opportunities for cost savings
Internal Controls
Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
Implement and monitor policies and procedures related to financial transactions
Technology & Systems
Utilise financial management software and systems to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
Stay updated on technology trends that could benefit the financial operations of the restaurant
Advisory Role
Provide financial guidance and insights to senior management for strategic decision-making.
Participate in the development and implementation of business strategies
Work in an upbeat motivational positive state with management to encourage them to achieve their targets
As the hands-on Financial Controller you will need to be detail-oriented, possess strong analytical skills, and have a deep understanding of the unique financial challenges within the food and beverage industry. You must also be adept at communication and collaboration with other departments to ensure overall business success. Specifically, you will be collaborating with the restaurant managers and training them in the new controlling processes and procedures.
