As part of our growth strategy, we are looking to appoint an experienced Financial Controller to join our Senior Leadership Team.

In addition to leading our finance function, you will be part of the senior team that will drive future success, building on our solid foundations of being a market leader; one that is just as ambitious as ever to deliver quality, innovation and peace of mind to increasing numbers of customers through our unrivalled national network of approved instructors.

We are not content to sit on our laurels, and we are looking for someone who can grow with us, with potential to step up as Finance Director in the next couple of years as we deliver on our growth plan.

Key responsibilities



Financial Planning and Analysis - leading on financial planning and strategy to support the overall company growth objectives. Producing the company's annual budget in partnership with the Managing Director, and creating and managing financial forecasts, and tracking and further developing key performance indicators. Financial Reporting - preparing and presenting monthly management accounts, and annual financial statements to management, shareholders, and other key stakeholders. Ensuring all financial transactions are properly and accurately recorded, filed and reported. Analysing financial data to identify trends and opportunities, and providing insights and recommendations for improving efficiency and profitability. Cash Management - robust cash flow management and the production of regular cash flow forecasts, ensuring sufficient liquidity, and managing working capital effectively. Regular review and management of robust financial controls. Compliance - ensuring adherence to all relevant financial regulations, tax laws, and accounting standards, and leading on ensuring the company is compliant with its financial, legal and filing obligations. Risk Management - identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial risks, including credit risk, market risk, and commercial and operational risk. Managing and developing the finance team, providing guidance and support, and nurturing a culture of collaboration and accountability. As part of the SLT, contributing to the company's overall strategic direction, providing financial and broader commercial and business expertise, and advising on major decisions. Treasury Management - robust and proactive management of the company's cash, investments, and debt, including optimising financing arrangements, and advising on alternative solutions. Overseeing payroll and liaising with the company's outsourced payroll provider.

Qualifications, experience and skills required



Essential qualifications:



Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA).

Essential experience:



Extensive experience in finance, accounting, and financial management, at a senior level in a transactional business environment. Production of monthly management accounts and annual financial statements. Development of annual budgets and financial and cash flow forecasts, and the management of cost centres. Leading and managing a finance team.

Desirable experience:



Previous experience gained as a Financial Controller leading a full-service finance team in an SME environment. Experience of Microsoft's Business Central and Dynamics software.

Required skills and behaviours:



Technical proficiency in financial software, accounting principles, and financial reporting standards (e.g. IFRS, GAAP). Ability to contribute to the Senior Leadership Team and exhibit strong corporate leadership behaviours and a mindset focused on growth and innovation that supports and promotes the company's growth plan and overall priorities. Strong leadership and management skills - able to lead, motivate and develop a team, delegate effectively, and provide guidance and support. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify financial trends and make data-driven decisions. A proactive and 'can do' mindset, with the ability to step back and look at the bigger picture, but also drill down into the detail and roll their sleeves up to support the team. Good commercial insight and business acumen, with a strong understanding of broader business operations and market dynamics. A good team player with strong relationship building and influencing skills.
