This role is a key part of our management team, contributing to monthly management meetings and attending board meetings when required.
Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee our financial operations and ensure the integrity of our financial reporting. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing the company's finances, providing strategic financial guidance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This position requires a strong background in financial management and proficiency in accounting software.
Duties
Financial Planning & Analysis:
Develop and implement financial plans, budgets, and forecasts, conducting detailed financial analysis to support decision-making.
Management Reporting:
Prepare and interpret financial reports, including gross profit reporting, stock and inventory accounting, and budget vs. actual analysis with commentary.
Cash Flow Management:
Monitor and manage cash flow, identifying risks and opportunities to ensure sufficient liquidity.
Stock & Inventory Management:
Experience in stock system implementation and setup is preferable but not essential.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Develop and manage budgets, forecast financial performance, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Risk Management:
Identify and assess financial risks, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
Investment Management:
Support investment activities, analyse opportunities, and advise on capital allocation, including strategic financial planning for business growth (e.g., new premises, equipment, or expansion into new territories).
Liaison with External Parties:
Maintain relationships with accountants, tax advisers, payroll, auditors, solicitors, bankers, and statutory organisations.
Team Leadership:
Supervise and mentor finance staff, providing guidance and support to achieve team goals.
Strategic Financial Advice:
Provide financial expertise to senior management on strategic decisions and business planning.
Experience
Proven experience as a Financial Controller or in a similar role within finance or accounting. A professional accounting qualification is preferred, however candidates who are qualified through experience would also be considered.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, particularly in relation to accounts payable.
Proficiency in accounting software (Xero) is essential for this position along with good Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Exceptional communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
