We're a manufacturing business with ambitious plans and a great team to deliver our goals. We manufacture a range of specialist screens for both the consumer and commercial markets, and our commercial customers include many of the big brand food and drinks manufacturers.
This year we expanded into the industrial market, focusing on the HVAC sector with a new distribution deal and the development and manufacture of our own product. As a result of this growth we now require a Financial Controller to join our team.
This is a senior role reporting to the managing Director. You will be responsible for the financial management of the business as well as other key areas including supplier reviews. You will also have a key involvement in purchasing relationships and pricing policy and implementation.
Purpose Finance - Primary role:
To fully oversee delivery of the financial function, ensuring that there is full understanding from the numbers of how profit and cash are delivered from historic data and that clear sight of profit and cash are plotted to give accurate forecast of both for as far ahead as possible. Budgets for the company to be set and reported against in delivery of the profit and cash need of the company. Supporting other facets of the company where required.
Objectives:
1. Working alongside Directors, Operations and Sales team to support Company Strategy, objectives and growth.
2. To be fully on-top of all elements of the finances to ensure that the company has the cash needed to meet the company targets and objectives.
3. To be fully on-top of all elements of the finances to ensure that profit is delivered to generate the cash needed to meet the company targets and objectives.
4. Always forecasting forward for both cash and profit positioning such that matters of concern can be seen well in advance and working to solutions to navigate around them once identified.
5. Have full awareness of liquidity, solvency and the net worth of the company.
6. Supporting the directors to allow delivery of the oversight of the company to meet its objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Board Reporting
1. To be fully over all facets of financial matters and prepared ahead of each board meeting.
2. Deliver required board papers for financial matters well ahead of each board meeting.
3. Highlight matters of concern ahead of each board with suggested solutions and recommendations.
4. Take own notes ahead of board minutes being circulated such that actions arising from each board can be worked on without the need to wait for reminders. Board action matters arising to be updated ahead of each board in summary.
5. Attend each board having prepared by reading all supporting papers and providing input on matters to be tabled outside of set agendas and for matters of other business for consideration.
Cash management
1. Maintain daily upkeeping of the cashflow management tool with very accurate positioning of a least a rolling 3-month period.
2. Fully ahead of the credit control and collection of due invoices.
3. Accurate sign off of all incoming purchase invoices to ensure accuracy and maintaining payments when due as cash allows.
4. Maintaining accuracy of all balance sheet items; Asset register, stock, WIP, loan balances, DLA's and control accounts, working with external advisers and accountants in this matter.
Profit tracking
1. Month end reporting of profit and job costing against budget for the company and per job.
2. Full sign off on all incoming purchase invoices to ensure that all postings are accurate and acceptable. Preparation of remittance advices and payments to suppliers.
3. Ongoing re-forecasting of profit projections if budgets show significant signs of under or over performance.
Accounting compliance
1. Oversee the filing on time of confirmation statements and accounts with Company's House and HMRC, working with externals for the delivery of these matters.
2. Oversee and delivery of getting year end accounts information together for external accountants within 2 months of YE and for draft accounts to be presented to the board at month 2-3 for adoption.
3. Set regular supplier reviews.
4. Manage and implement customer credit facilities in line with the Credit Policy and Credit Control Process.
5. Oversee VAT submissions on time and accurately.
6. Oversee payroll.
7. Oversee compliance of subcontractors for contractual terms, IR35 and any other aspects.
Bookkeeping Tasks
Post purchase invoices into Sage
Import monthly website sales into Sage
Bank reconciliations
Manage and Balance Petty Cash
Calculating and posting quarterly stock value
Other Tasks
Maintain and update product price files
Maintain and update customer price lists and order forms
Implement pricing updates to Sage and Website

AAT Level 3/4 or part qualified accountant

This role profile is not exhaustive; it will be subject to periodic review and may be amended to meet the changing needs of the business. The post holder will be expected to participate in this process and we would aim to reach agreement to the changes.
