Background

Reporting into the Director of Financial Control, this is a broad role that will be responsible for Revenue & COS reporting, statutory & external reporting, transformation projects including tax projects. This role will manage a team of Management accountants, Financial accountants and Senior Financial accountants.

This role will own the statutory and group audit with external auditors and also be the key point of contact for the Internal controls and Audit teams at Etsy.

As Depop has largely completed the key components of the integration with Etsy, the next step in the evolution of the Depop finance team is to optimise our processes and make use effectively and efficiently of all of the systems which we have now implemented. This will enable the team to have greater impact for Depop by providing faster and deeper insights to the wider business stakeholders to support our ambitious growth targets. Working alongside our internal management accountants, financial reporting and strategic finance team, as well as a number of cross functional departments including Product and Insights, and our colleagues at Etsy, the successful candidate shall be responsible for overseeing a number of projects from the Finance Transformation roadmap .

Tax compliance and reporting has been recently centralised with Etsy as part of the integration, we require an experienced individual to oversee this centralised function and lead on Depop specific input as and when required to meet our variance tax compliance requirements. This role will work closely with Etsy on future tax expansion and tax information reporting projects which are complex cross functional projects. These future projects will arise as Depop\'s presence grows in overseas markets and new legislation anticipated becomes effective (anticipated for 2024/2025). The impact of this role will be to ensure product initiatives are implemented to continue 100% compliance in new markets.

We\'re looking for an experienced, practical individual who is prepared to work as part of a team but with the confidence to work autonomously and take ownership for these critical areas.

Responsibilities:

Statutory Accounts & Audit

  • Oversee and support the team in the preparation of the statutory Financial Statements (UK GAAP) from group reporting under US GAAP.
  • Manage the internal preparation for the external audit, working with the management accountant team to plan and produce the audit files, policy documentation and walkthroughs in a timely and an accurate manner.
  • Own the relationship with the external auditors alongside with the Director of Financial Control to ensure the audit is as short as possible resulting in an excellent audit report.
  • Pro-actively seeks areas to improve both the overall Statutory Reporting process and the external audit and related internal processes.
  • Works with the rest of the Finance team to follow up on audit observations, ensuring consistency of approach and high standards of audit files, driving high levels of individual accountability, engagement and development.
Reporting & Transformation
  • Own the Revenue & COS reporting process and drive and lead revenue analysis with deep dive into margins, KPIs, GP margins which feed into the transformation roadmap.
  • Revenue transformation - Oversee and own the revenue automation project and other projects on the project roadmap designed to optimize the accuracy and timeliness of revenue reporting.
  • Deliver solutions for improving and streamlining internal finance processes relating to revenue accounting and reporting to make them more efficient and accurate.
  • Work alongside other business stakeholders on initiatives to optimise Revenue and COS.
  • Take the lead in key initiatives along with Strategic finance and revenue reporting team to optimise margins for the various revenue streams.
  • Building the Transformation roadmap by identifying opportunities for process improvements, automation, improving accuracy, new projects and facilitating the projects and being the key point of contact for cross functional projects and influencing the roadmap of other teams for crossover projects.
  • Owning the delivery of the Finance Transformation roadmap, coordinating with the relevant finance team and cross functional team members to deliver projects in line with the assigned deadlines.
  • Support the Director of Financial Control on various other finance transformation projects including enhancing policy and process documentation plus any new finance led projects on the product roadmap, or other company wide projects.
  • Articulate the roadmap and progress made by providing updates on various finance transformation projects which impact the wider team and business
  • Deliver solutions to improve ability to meet reporting obligations and empower staff and stakeholders to make better business decisions.
  • Build the relationship with Strategic Finance and identify and own delivery of any transformation projects in the strategic finance scope.
  • Support and oversee work streams that include cross functional teams including Product, Legal, Insights, CX and CRM for critical financial reporting compliance cross functional projects, ensuring financial and regulatory compliance objectives are met and appropriately included on the Product road map.
  • Oversee and facilitate the tax compliance projects, being the bridge between tax, legal and product teams for financial compliance projects on the Product Roadmap, for example DAC7 Reporting and Low Value Goods Tax Expansion in overseas markets.
Qualifications

Requirements:
  • You will be an ambitious, dedicated individual that is excited about the opportunity to develop in a fast-paced global business that is constantly changing.
  • Extensive experience with an audit background.
  • Results-oriented approach, with the ability and to make independent decisions with a solutions-driven approach
  • Proven track record of balancing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, able to work in an agile manner and prioritize an ongoing list of tasks
  • Technically strong accounting skills and confident with financial reporting, with ideally both UK GAAP and IFRS exposure.
  • Willingness and ability to perform tasks at all levels, from detailed preparation to high level review and strategic planning.
  • Good communicator & team player with the ability to coordinate and influence cross-functionally with external and non-finance partners.
