The First Line Compliance and Risk Manager is responsible for managing first line governance, risk, and compliance within the business area. This role is pivotal in embedding robust processes and developing capabilities that continually enhance the provision of Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) services to SBISL and SBG. The role will drive a culture of rigorous thinking and controls, ensuring that the organisation meets its risk appetite statements and supports sustainable business growth.

What you'll be responsible for:





Ensure SBISL (and appointed representatives) foster a culture of rigorous thinking and controls to satisfy SBG risk appetite statements and enable sustainable business growth. Create and maintain department-wide solutions, policies, and standards to keep up with emerging technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes. Accountable for first line risk and assurance governance objectives, ensuring accurate management information and reporting from Executive Operational committees through to the Board. This involves providing clear and actionable insights to support strategic decision-making. Lead and mentor a small team, facilitating good teamwork dynamics and embedding good practices across SBISL and the group. This includes setting clear expectations, providing guidance, and fostering a collaborative environment. Attend various risk and governance committees, such as Pricing & Product and Consumer Committees, to provide insights and support decision-making processes. Ensure Operational Resilience, Wind Down Planning, and Business Continuity Planning are kept up to date and satisfy regulatory requirements. Ensure the compliance processes, procedures, and all relevant FCA, CMA, and ICO requirements are met. This includes staying informed about regulatory changes and implementing necessary adjustments.


What you'll need:



Essential:

Significant technical regulatory knowledge, particularly in a highly regulated business environment, ideally gained in the Insurance industry. Proven experience in leading, managing, and delivering governance, risk, and assurance initiatives. Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, ensuring timely and efficient completion of tasks. Demonstrated integrity and reliability in handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people and adapt to different cultures. This includes both verbal and written communication. Strong collaboration, conflict resolution, influencing, and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in team settings. Ethical mindset, focused on treating customers fairly and delivering good customer outcomes. Strong verbal and written communication skills to interface with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proficiency in using computer software and tools relevant to the role. Confident, self-motivated, and enthusiastic team player, with a proactive approach to work. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and adaptability. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.

Desirable:

Experience of working in Committee structures, providing support and information to strategic decision-makers. Ability to engage people through leading by example and cultivating a culture of transparency and curiosity.
