1. Job Purpose:



The Fleet Control team is responsible in preparing ambulances for operational duty to an agreed quality standard for the benefits of our patients and staff. Their responsibilities will include stocking, vehicle roadworthiness checks and safety/functional checks of on- board equipment (non-medical i.e., wheelchairs, slid boards and carry chairs etc.)

You will maintain the serviceability of all ambulance Fleet, equipment, and consumables.

Deploy only compliant equipment for use in ambulance fleet in accordance with the company's safety protocol. Ensure appropriate consumables stock levels are available for all deployed ambulance fleet. Maintain regular communication with the Patient Transport Ambulance driver's team using radio/telephony/mobile data terminals as necessary to receive and provide call information updates and register your vehicle's current status and availability. To maintain complete confidentiality of any information provided or gained concerning patients. Ensure all ambulance fleet deployed for use is cleaned (all areas including all touch surfaces) and equipment to agreed Trust Infection Prevention and Control Standard Adopt Infection Control procedures and Universal Precautions. To identify shortages in stock levels and regularly place orders of medical equipment/consumables on an IT system, accepting delivery, recording, storing, monitoring, replenishing items as necessary and filing associated paperwork appropriately. To accurately record the withdrawal of stock using manual and electronic means To undertake routine and ad-hoc stocktakes to verify the accuracy of recording systems. To identify losses of equipment and stock on returning vehicles and accurately record this onto department database. To safely move ambulances around the site for refuelling, maintaining levels of vehicle consumables, vehicle testing and maintenance To use correctly and ensure the adequate availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to undertake the activities of the role. Where deficiencies exist ensures prompt reporting action to available supervisor or group lead. To identify any hazards that present a risk to staff, patients, or visitors to line manager. Ensure appropriate steps are taken to protect the environment, the health and safety of staff, patients, and visitors. To record any adverse incidents or near misses to line manager and accurately record on the handover document. Communicate effectively with a wide range of professionals and other agencies to support joint working to meet patient needs, which may, at times, be complex and sensitive. Liaise with on- and off-site vehicle technicians to understand vehicle maintenance requirements and availability of vehicles currently under maintenance or repair. Contributes to effective communications with operational staff and other disciplines within the team (internal and external stakeholders To communicate accurately within the team on the status of all vehicles with the depot To inform base of any delays or breakdowns that will delay patients attending hospital. To report any accidents and / or injuries to patients, members of the public and to vehicles promptly and to make a full report of any such incident on the report form provided without delay. Abide by the highway code and laws pertaining to driving. Apply the driving standards set out in drivers handbook policy and during training. Report any accidents or near misses as set out in the incident reporting procedure via control team. Staff will ensure that all notices in vehicles are visible for those with impaired sight. Handle and dispose of all clinical waste and maintain appropriate standards of cleanliness of vehicles, equipment, and premises, Ensure the security of operational base / premises, vehicles, and equipment, as required, and report all damage in line with procedures/ protocols. Identify actual or potential hazards or risks to yourself, patients, colleagues, or others within the work environment and take immediate and appropriate action to reduce or eliminate the risk. Staff will ensure that each vehicle is equipped as per the "Vehicle Equipment Log". Responsible for ensuring that all ambulance vehicles are in a roadworthy condition before use. To perform Vehicle Daily Inspections (VDI) at the commencement of each shift and record in accordance with the company documentation highlighting any deficiencies or damage to your relevant line manager as soon as is practicable. Report vehicle defects to the operational manager via defect form. Check and replace where necessary all equipment and cleaning supplies ensuring it is efficient for daily operation. Check that the PDA and hands-free kit is operational. Ensure that all straps, seatbelts and securing equipment for Patients are available and fit for use. Present themselves for duty in the uniform supplied and in accordance with the company dress code including ID badges. Cooperate with colleagues to achieve the most effective operation for daily workloads. Know when to offer help and when to ask for it; assistance and advice available from supervisor/operational manager. Be prepared to play a full part in achieving individual and team targets and keep up with the flow of work. Understand their contribution and how it impacts the team. To record all pick-up and delivery times to the Transport ambulance team.
