Fleet Engineer
Location - Crewe
Department: Rail Division
6 Month secondment opportunity
Purpose of the Role
To lead the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of DRS fleet assets. As a Fleet Engineer, you'll be the technical heartbeat of our rolling stock operations--providing expert guidance, fault resolution, and engineering insight to ensure our locomotives, coaching stock, and wagons perform at their best, 24/7.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Support
Act as the first point of contact for traincrew technical queries and fault rectification.
Direct technical riding staff and support depot teams during exams, repairs, and riding duties.
Maintain and grow deep technical knowledge of all DRS fleets.
Monitor on-board telemetry systems and analyse system downloads to identify and resolve faults.
Ensure rolling stock is operated safely and in line with engineering standards.
Systems & Data Management
Update TOPS and other industry systems as required.
Log defects in the maintenance management system and ensure resolution before release into service.
Liaise with DRS depots, Field Support Engineers, and control rooms to manage breakdowns and reduce defect levels.
Create and maintain KPIs as directed by the Fleet Manager.
Communication & Coordination
Provide initial out-of-hours engineering contact and escalate issues appropriately.
Demonstrate excellent coordination and communication via phone and email.

What You'll Bring
Qualifications
HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline or time-served apprentice
Experience
Railway control and operations methodology
System download analysis (Class 68/88)
Maximo proficiency
On-depot locomotive maintenance
Working with NR and TOCs
Use of TOPS / R2 or equivalent systems
Knowledge
Rail industry expertise
Class 68/88 technical knowledge
Delay attribution processes
VMIs and Technical Bulletins
