Starting April 2026

Ballyburren Outdoor Escapes is a family-run, multi award winning eco tourism outdoor experience business set in beautiful woodland surroundings just outside Ballynahinch. We are passionate about nature-based learning, confidence building, and unforgettable outdoor experiences for children and families. We are excited to be expanding our team and are now seeking a Forest School Leader to join us from April 2026 onwards.

The Role



This is a varied, hands-on outdoor role involving the planning and delivery of engaging woodland experiences across a range of settings, including:

Forest School sessions for children of various ages Outdoor birthday parties School group visits and educational events Adult foraging and nature-based learning courses Adult bushcraft skills courses
You will play a key role in creating safe, magical and memorable experiences while encouraging curiosity, resilience and a love of the outdoors.

Key Responsibilities



Plan and lead forest school sessions in line with Forest School principles Deliver fun, safe and engaging outdoor birthday parties Facilitate school visits, workshops and group activities Lead foraging and nature-based learning sessions (training can be supported) Carry out risk assessments and maintain high safety standards Set up and pack down equipment and activity areas Work closely with the Ballyburren team to support seasonal events and programmes

About You



We're looking for someone who is:

Passionate about outdoor learning and working with children Confident leading groups in a woodland environment Warm, enthusiastic and approachable Organised, reliable and safety-conscious Happy working outdoors in all seasons

Essential:



Forest School qualification (Level 3 preferred, Level 2 considered) Experience working with children or young people First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain) Safeguarding training (or willingness to obtain) Knowledge or interest in foraging and nature skills (desirable but not essential)

Hours & Contract



Part-time with potential to grow as the business expands Weekdays, weekends and occasional evenings depending on sessions and events Seasonal flexibility required
