Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and professional freelance Vietnamese interpreter for an urgent legal interpreting assignment in or near Preston. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in legal settings and the ability to work on short notice.

Role Summary:

To provide accurate and impartial interpretation services between English and Vietnamese speakers in legal proceedings. This is an urgent, short-term, on-site role requiring a high degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation during legal appointments, police interviews, or court hearings. Accurately and completely convey all information, including tone and nuance, without adding, omitting, or altering any content. Maintain strict confidentiality and impartiality at all times, adhering to the legal interpreting code of conduct. Demonstrate a deep understanding of legal terminology and the UK legal system. Sight-translate legal documents as required. Travel to the specified location in or around Preston for the assignment.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

A recognised interpreting qualification, such as the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) or a similar certification.

Essential:

Proven experience as a legal interpreter in the UK.

Essential:

Native or near-native fluency in both Vietnamese and English, with a strong command of legal and technical vocabulary in both languages.

Essential:

A valid enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate..

Pay: 15.00-20.00 per hour
